RW/RP wiring color code?

chill

I opened up my Agile strat tonight. The neck and bridge each have a colored lead going to the switch (red, white) and a black lead to ground. The middle has the black lead going to the switch and a colored lead (blue) going to ground. Positions 2 and 4 buck hum. Is the middle pup RW/RP? -out of phase? Is there any way to tell w/o a pup meter?

Do you have another pup lying around? You can hold it head-to-head with the ones you have now. If it attracts one, and repels the other, then one of them is RW/RP.

No extra pups or compass, so I bit the bullet and did the series blender pot and 50's mod. The series combos buck hum and have more low end than the single coils, so I think the middle pup is RW/RP.

The 50's mod seemed to help with the treble rolloff as the volume is turned down, i.e. there's less of it with the 50's than stock, and I left the 500K pots in.

The series blender is cool. It definitely girths up the strat sound and takes away a bit of the tippy top treble. And more output. With the blend pot at max blend and with some overdrive on the amp, the middle pup gives a nifty rhythm sound and switching to the bridge + middle series gives a volume and mids boost for leads. The neck + middle series gives a good bluesy sound when the volume is rolled back a bit with the same amp settings. Almost a Jesus Just Left Chicago sound. I'll put something on the strat pickups in series thread once I have more time to play with it.
