Rythm pickup that matches Broadcaster

Hi I have an Ash telecaster and I curently have a SD Broadcaster in the bridge position. The SD website says "change both lead and rhythm pickups" but they don't make a broadcaster rhythm pickup. Which SD pickup matches the Broadcaster best? (standard tele neck pickup with chrome cover please)

The Vintage Rythm would work well in conjunction with the Broadcaster.

welcome to the forum!!!

probably the vintage tele rhythm. very sweet tele neck tone with the classic look. you dont have to change both pups but what ends up happening is the new pup sound so much better than the old one and the other pups follow shortly

Well I currently have a Hot for Tele rhythm in the neck position that I got in a trade, but was thinking that, at 9.6k (I think thats what I measured), it wasn't the best match for the broadcaster. It does sound good though.

I'll listen to the sample and see if I think its worth changing!

Edit: I was checking the website, by vintage rhythm, do you mean Vintage Rhythm Stack or Vintage '54 Rhythm? (I'm thinking I don't want a stack, but I would prefer the '54)

Edit number 2: Oh and another question, is the rhythm Vintage '54 RW/RP (compared to the Broadcaster?) (I'm pretty sure the Hot For Tele isnt)

I'd give that pickup a chance with the Broadcaster before I decided to try something else.

The "vintage rhythm" is the Vintage '54 Rhythm. It's a low-output pickup that is sweet and warm. Depending on your particular guitar and amp(s), you may love it or want something with more horsepower.

No, you're not going to have hum cancelling in the middle position with that combo.

The Hot Model for Tele neck pickup should do fine. Just lower it down. Pickups sound better lowered down anyway.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I'll stick with my Hot for Tele! I don't dislike the pickup or anything, in fact I quite like it, its just curiousity...

Has Seymour Duncan ever made a Broadcaster neck pickup? Their is one for sale, but it says that SD don't make these anymore. It doesn't have cloth wire like the bridge pickup, so I was wondering if its really a SD.

The Vintage Rythym (STR-1) is the neck pickup usually combined with the Broadcaster Lead or Vintage 54 Lead. It is not humcancelling when combined with those pickups however. It'd be nice if it was and, IMO, Duncan should change it to a RW/RP pickup.

The Hot Rythym (STR-2) works well too....some people even prefer it. It has a little more bass, mids and treble than the STR-1.

Just a side note: I just compared a brand new Broadcaster Lead to the original Broadcaster pickup I own from the early 50's. They are reverse polarity compared to each other!

One has north polepieces on top and one has south polepieces on top.
