Re: S F X -03..............
TIP:
Buy low
Sell higher
Trade UP !!!!
Most of the stuff I own I've either traded for or sold something I already had to get what I wanted.
It's a little lesson I've learned from GJ & a few others around here.
Anyway....to the pedal :
The jury is still out & I want to do a shoot out between the SFX, FD II 10th Anniv MOSFET & the Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket.
I played the Godin with Fralin humbuckers & a Strat w/Ant Surfers thru the Edana.
Fat & full all around....colored if you want it or semi-transparent boost-like if you want that.
I used the recommended settings & then tweaked to my tastes....I settled on the "Classic/Straight-Ahead Rock n' Roll Tone" setting as it's best suited to the stuff I play.
In bypass, you get the clean tone of the amp (which is great BTW

)...switch it ON to the RHYTHM channel & you get a smooth full rhythm tone that gets dirty if you dig in. Reminds me of what it sounds like running the channels bridged on a 4 input amp.
Hit the channel selector to LEAD and it's classic-rock lead tone heaven! I set the gain to about 2:30 & dropped the volume to about 10:00 & it soared into saturation without a huge amount of distortion....basically, still sounded like the amp only fuller & bigger.
Turn the gain to about 3:00 & knock the volume up a bit & it starts to dirty up, which sounded nicer on the single coils than the buckers.
The size isn't bad, about the same as the Bottle Rocket. Nice solid build...the color is cool. My brother had a '78 Chevy Z-28 the same bronze/orange metallic color.
Again, I need to play it some more & try to set it up right with the other pedals.....lots a tweaking ahead to see what I'm gonna keep.
Is it better than the FD or Bottle Rocket??? I wouldn't say that....just a different flavor.
I was actually playing the VG-88 more due the complexity & vast array of crap in it......now THAT is gonna take a while!!!
I'll keep ya' posted.............
