S*** guys, I think I need a Custom.

Well... I'm unfortunately out on the Brobucker because of the price, but I still need another Bridge pickup... basically a PAF style with more power under the hood, so I thought the Custom may be a good idea. The clips on the SD page sound fine at least.
Is there anything that I should know about this thingy?

Edit: Also, the Custom isn't as bright as the Distortion, is it?

thanks

Yes, Alnico 8! Do a search on Alnico 8 here and you will see it's probably the best thing you can do for your custom. I think you'd be very happy with that pickup.

By Alnico 8, I mean swapping the ceramic magnet to an Alnico 8 magnet. Gets rid of some of the brittle ness and gives more warmth, which is what most like to hear in a PAF pickup, right?

Thanks for the advice, I may check that out if I can get my hands on such a magnet

The Custom is a bit brighter than the DD. I know that it isn't a Duncan or a PAF style, but the Super Distortion by Dimarzio is treating me very well.

I put one in my Hamer Special and its big, meaty, and clear.

Re: S*** guys, I think I need a Custom.

If Brobucker is too expensive , why wouldn't you try a Screaming Demon witch is the same ballpark , if you think it is too bright you can swap allen head screws for regular slotted ones and end up with a beefed up paf 10k ?

Re: S*** guys, I think I need a Custom.

The Screaming Demon is completely different voiced than a PAF. It's more of what I would think of as a "not so high gain metal lead pickup". Unfortunately that's not what I need.

But thanks for trying anyway ;)

Re: S*** guys, I think I need a Custom.

Have you tried it ? To me it is like an improved beefed up hi-fi paf , shred and metal beast for shure but suitable also for a lot of styles .

Re: S*** guys, I think I need a Custom.

Well... the reason why guys here wanted the Brobucker is that there is nothing PAF like in the 10k area...
And no, I haven't tried itmyself, but I know what it sounds like and it's like you said mostly a metal pickup and that's not exactly what I need.
