What are you guys using as your setup???

I just grabbed a nice San Dimas Strat in a trade, but it has these crap Don Lace pick-ups in them.

I have a Custom bridge & was thinking either a Lil '59/Lil '59 or Vintage Rails/Cool Rails for the neck & middle.......

Any thoughts?

Also, someone talk to me about the "Parallel Axis Trembuckers".......if anything, I'm interested in the look of them :D

H/S/S is definetly my favorite set-up, but I wouldn't want to have 3 humbuckers in it...

Mine: '78 EVH / SSL-5 / SSL-5 and I couldn't be more happy with it...

Hi Terry -

APS/SSL/C-5 works in my fat frankenstrat

FWIW flipped the magnet in the C-5 so I split to the screw coil in position 2. (For a year or more the pickup was just in backwards/upside down.) I think the middle/screw coil combo sounds more like a true single coil strat in the notch position. It may be more a question of output balance than coil position. Also, my control layout does not include the split humbucker by itself (worthless on this strat with this pup).

PM me if you're interested in a complicated wiring layout that includes a parallel/series switch, push/pull to add (a) split bridge to neck or (b) all four coils, and master tone control plus bass cut. Needs a 4-pole/5-way "mega switch" and some patience, but there's a lot of tone choices

PATB-1/APS/APS. I love the setup (see the other thread for info on PATB). If you want a brighter, tighter sound from the neck and mid, go SSL-1. Both vintage flavor. Some of the hots like the SSL-5 or 6's would be nice for a more moden touch.

Not a fan of the rails look, and not a fan of the duckbuckers tone.

I wish I could say I'd like to play it more to see how bright the guitar is, but the singles are all over the place tonally; just crap. The bucker isn't bad & I've got a Custom that I'll probably throw in tomorrow or Thursday just to be able to play it.

Super nice axe....gotta get used to the 24 frets though :wink:

I put 2 Quarter Pounder single coils and a Duncan Distortion humbucker in my son's Strat. He loves it.

I have a JB in the bridge and classic stacks in middle and neck. I think the output difference is too big.

The Fat Strat in my avatar has an SSL-1 in the neck, SSL-5, in the middle, and an SH-6 Distortion in the bridge w/ a push/pull series/parallel switch. Also, both single coils share one tone control and the other tone controls the Distortion. The five-way switch is standard N-NM-MB-B. I can get a wide range of tones from it.

I've got an american deluxe with the SCNs in it...and I've been hemming and hawing about gutting the strat and putting in an HSS pickguard. Part of me wants the humbucker in the bridge...the other part wants the single.

It's frustrating to say the least....I'm going to have to buy another friggin strat! :damnit:

Currently my Number One Strat has 2 Fender Texas Specials, and an A2 Pearly Gates. It sounds great, especially for leads, but I'm looking to change my tone
(as I do every so often).

My current idea is Cool Rails, Vintage Rails, '59, although I am not committed to it.

my blue strat had Jazz B/2 Surfers for a long time, but I recently put in a JB tremspaced instead. I just wanted the high notes to sing more, and the JB is good at that. When I flick to the neck pickup, it's pure blues.

one amazing thing I've realized is that Gibson humbuckers sound great in superstrats, because they tend to be a little ruder than Duncans.
My G&L Legacy Deluxe has a nickel 498T/G&L A5 single, Cool Rails.
The Cool Rails really works great as a neck pickup for a fullsize humbucker!

Not bad, but he rarely uses a clean tone. That particular setup is not my cup 'o' tea, but he likes it.
