Sab's Iommi Live Evil gear

Re: Sab's Iommi Live Evil gear

Ahh very cool...good info to have. Still..even at 1/2 the "rated" power...that some serious volume...ughhh :blackeye: :laugh2:

Sune, I had that old Iommi Star Licks or whatever video at one time when I was a kid..with him playing the MESA combo. It was a MKII Mesa of some sort..prolly a IIc or IIc+. And yes, there are pretty significant differences in the MK series Mesas.

MKI's are basically the Santana type sound, or Larry Carlton...the smooth liquidy original modded Fender Princeton type sound.

The MKIIB/C/C+ & MKIIIs are the "classic" Boogie "metal" amps: From Iommi, to Brad Gillis on Speak of the Devil (IIB) to Metallica (IIc+/III) and Sykes (C300)....And I'm sure plenty of others used them as well.

MKIVs are the "do alot of things well, but nothing absolutely spectaular" MESAs. Not that it's a slight, cos they do sound great..they just didn't do the MKI sound as well as the MKI or the MKII/III sound as well as the MKII/III. But very versatile!

then the Rectumfriers hit and the Marks went by the wayside pretty much. Kinda sad really.

Thanks for the explanation. In the starlicks DVD I have, it isn't a combo, but a kind of rack with 4 mesa heads in it!!
