I haven't heard the original, but your version here is great. Your voice and the kinda low-fi acoustic combine to make a sort of timeless sound, as if this recording could be from the early 60s folk scene, the 70s or any other time up to and including the present.
I like the overall effect, it's not strident or harsh, and to my way of thinking (hearing ?) it's kinda quietly confident with a sort of fragile element that makes it draw the listener in. I find it very appealing, down-to-earth and 'humanistic'. My opinion is that your voice is really growing in confidence, but in a very natural and honest way, I like how it never sounds forced or 'affected' with quirky mannerisms or other gimmicks. From what i've heard of your musical styles, the voice seems to work perfectly for your take on music, and this cover seems to suit your overall style effortlessly.
I do hear contemporary material like this sometimes, and it's too often plagued by overly-enthusiastic guitar strumming or angst-ridden vocals with strange mannerisms that just seem to be there to create some kind of 'listen at me, i'm trying to stand out from the crowd' edginess that often detract from the song. You seem to have picked a song that is a natural fit for you and presented it in a way that puts it front and centre, without the histrionics that many people seem to feel is necessary to get something like this to be noticed.
Yup, guitar, voice and song all working together for the greater good, And it is good, really good. Just keep doing what you do, because it's honest and natural, and i suspect it will endure for those very reasons.
