safe to add cab to Mesa Boogie combo?

I have mesa boogie lonestar special 4x10 and was thinking of adding a 2x12 or 1x12 cab with it or even a 1x15 but I'm not sure where I would plug in the cab and what the ohm rating on the cab should be... any help appreciated, I'm a noob when it comes to heads and cabs

Unfortunately, I think you are out of luck with the 4x10 format but I could be wrong. Assuming the speakers are 8 ohm each you come out with 2 ohms. Unless theres a safe mismatch that I don't know about..... I'm sure others will chime in...

They are absolutely designed to have that done. Mesa's owner's manuals are extremely clear and detailed on how to do it, in terms of using the right impedance and where you'd plug in. Just read the owner's manual for your amp. Then, if it is still unclear how to go about it, give the Mesa Boogie Shop on Sunset in L.A. a call. The manager there (John, I think) is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

ok I'll read the manual online now...


OK read it, It was not clear for the 4x10 model only the 1x12 and a 2x12

I emailed mesa but it says they won't get back to me till Tuesday or Wednesday !

I can wait but if anyone has an idea let me know!

What is your cab set at now.?
Is it hardwired...or is it on a plug to the back panel.?
What options do you have on your back panel.?

it is plugged into the back panel... into the optional 35 watt output. there is 2 main outs for 30 watts

Your speakers are plugged into jacks that are marked with wattage numbers...not Impedance.?

yeah, there is a picture of the back panel in the online manual too so you can see for yourself.. I'm confused and really don't feel like blowing up my only gigging amp

That is different.
I cannot really see it...but I get what you are saying.
I would bet in your manual there is an explanation...maybe even a Min/Max impedance that Mesa is comfortable with.
Otherwise I would give them a call or wait for their Email.
