Hello everyone, I have a couple guitar polishing cloths, the yellow colored ones, and they're getting kinda filthy and wanted to know if it's safe to wash them in the washing machine and dry them in the dryer?
Yup I wash mine, also. I would also check out your local Dollar Tree. They have blue microfiber cloths that are great for guitars at two for $1.25. They should be with the cleaning supplies. I use them and wash them all the time.
If they're microfiber washing is perfectly fine. It might be worth using a little less detergent than you normally would and maybe giving them an extra rinse cycle though. If you use too much it doesn't rinse out properly and most regular detergent will build up in the tiny pores in microfiber. That can then trap fine dirt particles, leading to very fine scratches or a kind of smearing grease effect sometimes.
I was told it isn't good to use microfiber cloths on good lacquer finishes.
Perhaps because they can trap fine particles and leave tiny scratches as mentioned above.
I imagine poly finishes are tough enough that microfiber wouldn't be a problem.
I usually use pieces of old all-cotton T-shirts for mine.
Nice & soft, washed for years already.
