Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

I agree, it is hard to find good quality gear at ash anymore. They have a lot of cheap beginner guitars and amps, and salespeople who don't know what they are talking about.

funny, you're in the 'pines now, did you once live around here? My family was stationed at Clark when I was 3 :D

Slade

nah, i was on a business trip, kinda hopping from city to city. at the end of the business stuff, i asked my boss for a 1 week vacation. i stayed for a few days with my cousin in corona (15 minutes from ontario mills mall).

i got relatives and friends all over the country. the first time i was in CA, i was in SF and Berkeley :) my last trip was more on the east coast. i had a blast in DC. :)

it's funny i've actually never been to clark. the in-laws of my cousin in MD (about an hour drive north of DC) are from san fernando, pampanga - where clark's at. my friends went there last week for a friend's wedding...and STAG PARTY before that :)

Here's a story similar to GJ's....

The Sam Ash in Columbus used to be great. First time my dad took me there (early teens), I swear to god there were PRS guitars leaning up against the wall, for lack of space on the wall, because of all the killer guitars.

Once Guitar Center moved in (less than a mile away), Sam Ash turned into the stockpile of guitars with mile-high action, dead strings, and bullsh1t drying and crumbling off the fretboards. Last time I was there, one of the dumbass salesman let a kid with a studded belt play a brand new LP :smack:

I'm assuming you're talking C-Bus, Ohio... Yup, I remember back to 1997 when I got my first guitar from that Sam Ash on Morse Road. They had the coolest stuff in there... all kinds of Gibsons, Fender, PRS, and a ton of cool used gear. It wasn't long after GC rolled in that Sam Ash went to hell. Last time I was in there was probably close to three years ago, and it was a real hole. They had a 61 SG RI with a lyre vibrolo that I really wanted, but the action was four miles high, the fretboard was very dry, and the truss rod needed about a full turn.

Of course, I expect that GC on Morse to move in the next couple years. The neighborhood around it went to hell 10 years ago, and has proven that no matter how bad something is, it can get worse.

The GC and Sam Ash in Richmond VA are right next to each other! I mean it, you can spit a logie from one store and hit the other store (they are that close, seriously) The only thing that seperates the 2 stores is a service road to make deliverys to the back of each store. They both have OK gear and the advantage is you can get stuff for cost all day long by dealing back and fourth between both stores.
:laugh2: I'll have to go up there sometime, that's pretty freaking hilarious.

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

100$ doesn't go very far today, so worse case is buy some stings, picks and straps. most music stores should be able to at least get you that!

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

I've always been pretty happy with the Sam ash here in Clearwater. The most architecurally (is that a word?) elaborate music store I've ever been in. Massive floor space. Sadly, most of that floor space is used for drums and the guitars are in a relatively small room... the selection is hit and miss.. but if you get there on a good day they'll have quite a few nice amps and a boat load of nicer ESP's and LTD's. It seems like they have been deteriorating recently.... and Guitar Center just opened up about a mile away. Is there a pattern here or is it just me?

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

Sam Ash in Clearwater was nicer when it was Thooroughbred Music...but it is still an amazing looking building...marble ballrooms and hanging gardens, with fountains all over - it was a fine dining establishment in the 20s...I havent been to the new GC in Clearwater (I live about 20 miles north of there )...but I figure the best time to visit one of the chain stores is when it first opens, before it goes to hell.
Good to see another Tampa bay area resident here!

I don't think the new GC is as nice as the one in Tampa... fairly mediocre selection in my opinion... but there is a used '58 Explorer (natural :D ) thats been hanging in the "expensive stuff" room ever since I've been going there that I've absolutely fallen in love with. heh... Sadly; college kids don't usually have 1300 bucks to throw around, and I'm no exception.

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

i got my first guitar at sam ash, and its a badass, so i cant really say anything bad about em. for a while there they were really in the skids, but theyve definately picked back up since. they have a lot of nice high end ESPs and stuff like that, whereas GC has none. i still dig em.

Re: Sam Ash Ontario worst store in history of man

The GC in Clearwater was pretty weak when I was down there last month, I didn't go to Ash this trip but I did go to Stevie B's. Nice guys a slew of guitars and they made me a great deal.
