Don't know if I'm double posting, but does anyone have any info on this,? I bought it for 80 bucks, its my project guitar, well built and plays well, but needs more mids for my taste. There are no serial numbers anywhere. Inside and out.

Nice score!
That would go nice with my Samick LP.
There is no info on these whatsoever, but I was so surprised to see how well it holds up against other more expensive guitars.

Re: Samick SG Script Type

What do you need to know? Samick was a division of SamSung,a Korean based company who at one time, were the world's largest supplier of electrical goods.
They didn't do a lot of advertising, but sold millions of guitars under many different brand names.
Their stuff ranged from absolute rubbish to gigable.
Check inside the control and pickup cavities for possible serial numbers, but whatever you find probably won't make the date any clearer. Most their numbers were plant and production run numbers.
This looks to be an early to mid 90's model.
Throw the pickups away, stick in a JB and a 59,and rock out!
I should mention in the early nineties (I think.....) They brought out Valley Arts Guitars to help establish the name in the US,and they produced some fine axes.

Cheers,PJ

Thanks for the feedback PJ. Actually there are no numbers anywhere, even inside, and I'm actually thinking of keeping the pickups but changing the pots and caps. The pickups were not bad the greatest but not bad either. A change in pots and caps might make the sound better, if not Seymour Duncan for the win!

If you do find a serial #, this site will tell you what factory it was made in, and when. It's for Epiphone's, but Samick made Epi's, so it'll show up. Some sources say that the factory used the better woods for the Samick guitars. May be some truth to it. Too bad the electronics weren't better. Mine got a JB/Jazz set real quick. Plays and sounds amazing.

Have a friend with an Artist edition Samick SG. Great guitar! 2nd that on the Valley Arts models!!!

Re: Samick SG Script Type

For a long time here, a Custom 5 (SH-14) and a '59N was the most popular recommendation for SG's, definitely more so than JB's. I'd definitely go with a Custom 5, or a Custom (SH-5) if you play hard rock and metal.
