My 81 doesn't have particularly deep contours. Most of the Warmoth bodies I've seen have deeper contours, but my buddy Mark's white 83 pointy had deeper contours than mine.

This is probably true, the first ones were pretty standard strats, and the deeper cut took 3-4 years to become a staple, maybe I should have clarified that...though up until about ´80 charvel also still had other bodies on stock, and they were sometimes a bit "inconsecutive"... I´ve seen charvel bodies dated in 81 (pre-pro San Dimas) on an ´87 Jackson guitar (Ontario serialized Production), for example .... that body just jumped over the whole serialized Charvel Era and became a Jackson

Wow you guys sure know a lot about this stuff.

I agree with the hype of the Charvels but I have a 1986 San Dimas Jackson Soloist and I just don't see or hear a huge difference. When I bought mine from GC in 1986 I also bought another for a buddy of mine. They were twins mine was charcoal gray and the other blue. Same Kahler Fulcrum bridge and same pickups. The blue however was much lighter and had a thinner neck.

I ended up giving my buddy the blue since my hands felt better on the thicker neck. It is no big deal or anything I just was always puzzled when people would see my guitar at gigs and stuff and always was drooling at it.

Like I said the Charvels are a different story. As a side story I could have had one. At the same time I bought my Jackson the GC guy showed me a USA Charvel but I turned it down cause I didn't like the bolt on neck. Looking back I don't regret my purchase but it seems like a opportunity lost. Now that I can afford it maybe I'll get one just to shut my brain up.
