San Dimas weight wth

I had the chance to play one of the newer MiM Charvel today, and what really struck me was how light it was. Seriously, are these weight-relieved? My RG Premium feels like a chambered LP compared to it.

Wood can be highly variable in its density... Even among the same type of wood. I have 2 61 reissue SG's and one is a half pound heavier than the other. Same guitars same shape (different colors though i doubt that makes a difference in weight)

+1

When I was shopping for my new LP in 2001 I finally narrowed it down to two that both sounded great. For a tie breaker I had my friend throw both on a shipping scale, and I bought the one that was 1.5lbs lighter.

I still don't think alder should be that noticeably lighter than basswood... okay, the trem is also lighter, but still...

Dude head over to warmoth.com then just look through the strat bodies and they show the weight of each one. You can easily see for yourself how much identical bodeis within the same shape can vary. They have swamp ash bodies at 4lbs 3 oz then another at 3lbs 2 oz. A full pound in just the body alone. Within alder they have one at 4lbs 7 oz and one at 3lbs 12 oz. They dont have any basswood bodies when i was there but you can see very easily the variability in the wood. On average over say a whole tree maybe basswood is lighter than alder on average but its far from impossible that 2 particular pieces are lighter than one another.
