Re: Satin or Gloss

what color is the stain?

If you're using that dark rosewood I think satin would look great, but then again I'm partial to satin poly in general.

Gloss.. if the wood quality is there go with it. I almost also prefer gloss unless I am going after a more subtle type look. For this application I'd go with gloss. Are you using Minwax stains and polys? I have used almost everythin and really like the Minwax product. Looks great by the way man....

Re: Satin or Gloss

For an amp, satin. Who wants to worry about polishing their amp!? Plus, on that color, I just think satin is better.

Re: Satin or Gloss

I'd go gloss. Make it something you'd want to put in the living room- nice and classy. I wouldn't mind polishing my amp!

Re: Satin or Gloss

I have to believe that the gloss poly would "bring out" more of the wood grain; if that's the look you are going for. Satin finishes tend to hide more than the gloss will.

Satin it is and it's going well. Several coats into it. If the wife says satin, then it's satin.

P-whipped... :laugh2: (j/k)

It will look beautiful either way. I wish I had grand burning a hole in my pocket!

Re: Satin or Gloss

A grand is just an insane amount of money if you really think about it. 6 years ago, I'd have laughed at you guys had you told me what gear I'd be owning now. Furthermore, I'd have found quite a bit of humor in the proposition that I'd be building amps with my own fingers. Just pure insanity.

One can never predict the future.
