Re: Saturday Night Special

Are your sure the SNS neck is wound with poly wire?

Like I said, trying to confirm with some peeps at Duncan. I mean, unless they are using PE that looks like poly. I've already ran some photos to someone, who supported what I'm seeing.

Of course, it could just be a marketing snafu or maybe a batch got made with wrong wire or they are using the lessona for more than PE or who knows what. I was just double checking specs as I was putting the review together, which will go up tomorrow as scheduled.

Re: Saturday Night Special

Well, the verbatim is quite clear: "The Saturday Night Special Set is made in Santa Barbara, California on the same Leesona pickup-winding machine that made the original P.A.F.s in Kalamazoo."

Arwin must be delighted! ;)

Yep. Based on that, I've been wondering if they're winding non-PE on the Leesona. Seemed like a pretty steep shift.

Based on the skillset and the downtime necessary to setup the Leesona to accept another type of wire, and, considering they've at least a dozen automatic machines with memorized setups for any type of poly wire, I'd say NOT LIKELY.

HTH,

I think we are on the same page.

I'm just trying to allow for all options to give the benefit of the doubt until there is an official response.

HTH,

The answer I was given is that they are now using a number of wire types with the Leesona.

That's interesting from an operational approach. Does anyone know how many operational Leesona winding machines they are using at the Duncan facility?

IIRC, Seymour bought two Leesonas, one functioning and the other just for parts. Maybe they got the second one working?

But, with the other machines, capable to reproduce any coil geometry and wind pattern, I just don't see the point in investing on the other Leesona, let alone to use poly wire, unless the original one was starting to give up.

If you got the answer from Arwin, he's as trustworthy as Trump. ;)

I know international options are limited due to distributor agreements, but that's quite a price hike! Perhaps there's someone out there who won't mind shipping overseas? I'm seeing the USD equivalent of £160 from retailers here in the U.S.!

£160 is better.

Hopefully the price will drop when more people begin to stock them.

Re: Saturday Night Special

Lt., just what is "trustworthy as Trump" supposed to mean?

Re: Saturday Night Special

No politics!! :wall:

So a Seth with attitude.... I might stick some in a guitar I bought specifically for clean/breaking up sounds.

I wonder how they would respond to a BMP.

Re: Saturday Night Special

Right, no politics!
I wish I was in a position to give an 'official' response to the winding question, but I am across the country.

Re: Saturday Night Special

no clue who that is
He introduced himself in another Forum as "Arwin, Product Support Specialist at Seymour Duncan". He assured the Co. wasn't delivering the Bonamassa Skinner sets in any other way than honoring the "first order gets delivered first", when the evidence of several other users suggested exactly the opposite. Those users all canceled their early made order and got refunded, and one even had to buy a set from a retailer that got their order shipped in advance of his.

His handle exists, but he has never even made a single post in the Forum from the company he supposedly works for.

All verifiable facts.

Need I say more?

Re: Saturday Night Special

A little OT, are the SNS hotter than WLH? Any other Duncans in this output class (greater than PAF but less than Custom/JB, etc.?

The official reply I was given was:

"We now use the Lessona with a number of wire types"

No reason to doubt that was cleared/provided from higher up.

Since a Leesona can be a little finicky and possessing a certain range of scope, they are generally considered best for replicating PAFs or P90s. Outside of the Seth, some consider Throback to be one of the guys using it for historically accurate reasons. So I can see why there are people that would have an interest in such a machine being used in ways that some may define as a little different...such as using types of wire not typically associated with PAFs that would have come from a Leesona.

Re: Saturday Night Special

Cool, thanks!

(are the WLH markedly hotter than PAF class? - I really need to try them period. :p)

Re: Saturday Night Special

I think.you should be directing your comment at Pepe.
I don't like to nitpick, but yes. Referencing a political candidate, any political candidate, as a means of comparison as to the trustworthiness of another unknown person is inherently political. I didn't make the reference, I was just pointing it out.
