Saturday pedal build...

Finally finished this one. It was on the bench before my dual TS808-Boost thing but I had left debugging to another day when I decided on the new project. Anyways, simple debug and now it sounds great.

I assume everyone will easily guess which popular pedal this one's a clone of based on my very "clever" derived name...

I'm not happy with the labels nor the paint job but at least it sounds good. It's a cool pedal,not sure I'll use it so much for now but it's a worthy addition to my collection of DIY stuff.

Green led for the distortion, yellow for the boost.
Built in a 125b box, which means more depth, so I could put the jack inputs over the pots for better layout.

No gut shots for a simple reason: it's pretty much a mess in there. I didn't measure the space between the two switches accurately and the board now has to sit crooked to fit right...looks stupid.

Thanks ! Fromt jacks are great but not feasible on all sizes (1590b for e ample are too shallow for them) and when you have both front and side jacks on your pedalboard they're not that practical IMO. Still, I try to do so as often as I can, either in 125bs like this one or with 1590bb when space allows me to.

Thanks TO! It's not that bad but I think I could've done better. I've seen way better but way worse too so all in all I'm not ashamed of it anyways...

I'm assuming it's a straight derivative of a Box of Rocks. I've heard it's a good pedal, just never got around to trying it out myself.

For labels you want to print a single clear decal/sheet that covers the entire face, and then put a border at the very edge, and cut the label there. It'll look cleaner that way.

Yup. It's good indeed. However, I'm not sure I'd pay full-price for one but it's easy to say when you can build one yourself for about 1/10th of the price...

For labels you want to print a single clear decal/sheet that covers the entire face, and then put a border at the very edge, and cut the label there. It'll look cleaner that way.

That's actually not what I meant. Usually I use decals that turn pretty much completely transparent after clear-coating. However, for this build, I had to use another type that don't and that's what I dislike. I know about that complete-decal but I don't like it...too much trouble to do a really clean job with, alignement is usually a problem with most folks who use it and waterslide decals are even worse... I'll stick with my usual decals but sometimes I don't have the choice so...

I see what you mean. Is the "Scavenger Effects" decal from a previous printing?

Yup, you can see it's a bit clearer although it is not as much as my previous batches since it was the first time I oven-cooked the pedal instead of letting it dry normally... I'm yet to find the perfect temperature to keep the labels as transparent as possible... However, when it comes to being efficient, that little toaster oven is the best 12$ I spent this boxing day!
That full decal you speak of works very well when done properly but it's too much of a hassle for me so far.

What I was thinking is that you'd scan the empty housing, and then label the holes inside Illustrator or Photoshop or the like (leaving room for knobs, washers, etc.) and then print the full decal. Obviously print on a plain sheet of paper first to make sure the scaling ended up right.

The epoxy clear coat method looks interesting to me.

We could discuss this further via email but I'll say this right away: I don't have any ethical concerns cloning pedals for myself, especially with pedals I'd never buy in the first place. However, profiting from these clones is something I'm not sure I'd be willing to do. Second, for me to deliver a product that I can stand behind and support, be proud enough to sell and so forth, the selling price will have to be much higher than my cost (cover my time for one thing). Cheaper than the original? Yes but still not anywhere near my cost.
All in all, we can dicuss this further but I'd still suggest your friend looks into supporting the designer first before looking into an amateur like myself... Just sayin'.

Oh, no problem at all. I totally understand. He's been talking about getting one for so long, everyone else in the band is thinking of chipping in and buyng one for him for his birthday in a week.
