save a tree. buy a used guitar!

I had a warmoth project planned... but I've always dug the Ibanez talmans & search ebay once in a while for the odd ones. This ones pretty rare with the 2-point trem... and its not a wood body, its some sorta resin. The later ones were wood... not quite as cool or consistent sounding. They're like a really hi-fi dan-O-strater or something with a chunky neck. Well, chunky for an ibanez. love that heel shape!

these white ones with the mini-hums are REALLY REALLY rare.

think I've only ever seen two or three.

For years I've wanted a Talman but I've never been able to find a lefty, One of my favorite Ibbys.

There was a Tal JUST like that local to me a few months back but it was black...I dig it and was tempted by it but just never went back to check it out...had I known you were looking I would have!

If you had seen a black one that looked like the white one I posted above, with the long lower horn then yeaaaaah... that'd have been rad! There was a white one on ebay sometime last year but the auction was pulled. Haven't seen another since.

Anyway, I didn't get the white one... this one is basic black with the 3-lipstick single coils & "regular" Talman body shape. Couldn't figure out how to directly save the pictures last night but this is it. 1994 MIJ with the sealed tuners, not Kulson style like the later ones.

I decided a few years ago that I wasn't going to buy any more "new" as in factory new guitars if I could avoid it. Too many used ones out there & hunting 'em down is at least half the fun.

Truthfully I was going to order all the Warmoth parts this week and get my project underway, but this fills all the requirements... big neck, rounded heel, funky body shape and a trem. These older talmans with the resin bodies are remarkably consistent sounding so I'm not too worried about it being a dog.

It doesn't have the pickups I want, the War was going to receive a set of mini-buckers (SM1N & SM3B) that I've had on the shelf for a year... but I dig the lipsticks AND i'm going to have Andrizzle cut a new guard so I can mount the minis. Then I can swap the guards out for different sounds, like two in one!

I'm STOKED!!!

Haven't bought a new plank in about two years or better. And this is my first ebay guitar too!

You've got me curious...Tal's show up in Atlanta ALL THE TIME...GC Atlanta had hundreds of them when they were discontinued and the blew them all out for nothing really...they pop up here in the used shops all the time...maybe I'll look for one.

Very cool. Nice score, J Moose.
I like the Ghost Rider. It came out about the same time that the Talman did. Also discontinued now.

Even back in the day I thought the Tal's (and the ghostrider!) were incredibly cool designs. Sorta retro, sorta modern and they don't feel like the typical Ivebeenhad... RG with a wizard neck that I felt like I could snap with my bare hands.

Frankly I think the coolest of the Talman clan were these original models with the cast resin bodies. Later editions were made from alder & basswood... maybe a couple other materials and they're rad too, but the resin has a certain vibe to it, especially coupled with the lipsticks.

Sorta like a really hi-fi Dan-O... but made with good parts instead of being held together with chewing gum. Translates to great playability... the ibanez hallmark.

The real reason for this over the Warmoth firebird is that the space under the guard is totally hollowed out. Like a REALLY big swimming pool so anything can fit in there. Which is how it'll be setup...

The main guard is going to rigged for an SM1N & SM3B (the mini buckers) and then I'll have the stock assembly with the dan armstrong lipsticks if I need another sound for a different gig.

I've wanted a set of lipstick pickups for strat for a long long while... so this kills both needs and I'll get two or three different setups out of the same ride. Which is good because I really don't need more guitars hanging around... I'm running out of space!!!

Pre-wired guards are much easier to store!
