Savin' up for a Mesa!

Whelp I'm just a youngin' with no money and I thought that I'd put aside a slightly longer term investment for a Mesa Boogie. You know, I've been looking for alternatives, but I think I might just have to go for the real thing. If my mind changes, I'll let you guys know, but any tips on what to look out for would be much appreciated!
Rock on! :headbang:

Are you thinking new or used?

Re: Savin' up for a Mesa!

Which one?

In my 20 years of playing guitar, I've found anytime I try to get the thing that's "good enough" I still end up wanting the real thing later on. If Mesa is what you want, Mesa is what you should get.

(Road King owner here ;))

Hehehe that is very true. Only concern of mine is that I'll be so nervous to take it out n' stuff. Scared that it'll be TOO nice for me.

As for which one, I've been looking at Rectos, Marks, and even Caliber .22 kind of stuff. :)

How's the Road King?

Also-
Is the "Roadster" series of the Rectifier just a more versatile version? I'm kind of confused about what those kinds of branches of the lines are, haha.

Roadster is like the Road King Jr. Still based on the rectifier preamps, it adds the Lonestar and Brit style voiced clean preamp channels but omits the 6L6/EL34 switching per channel and the cabinet switching.

If you are nervous about using it out, get a used one that's nicked up, then you won't care.

Ahh ok, thanks! Haha yeah exactly what I was thinking. :)

If you play all kinds of stuff, I'd look at the Mark series. For cleaner styles with pedals, go for a Blue Angel. There are also a ton of Rectos at a bunch of price points, so you can choose your power level (the big ones are LOUD).

Can't go far wrong with the Rectoverb25 as an entry point to the Mesa family.

Re: Savin' up for a Mesa!

get a good amp with the sound and features you like and use it. if thats a mesa then save up and get it and dont fret about dragging it around (although mesa's are notoriously heavy). amps are meant to be used not sit around at home. if you worry about getting marks on it then either buy a used one and/or get a good padded cover for it. having something nice only to not use it is silly

Re: Savin' up for a Mesa!

I really like the gain stages of the Mark and Rectifier, but I need a nice clean as well.

Then go with a used DC series–will be around the $700+/- range and it is based off of the Rectifier and Mark series. I would recomend the DC-5, plenty of power for gigs, has incredible cleans, incredible amount of gain available but even then it takes pedals extremely well.

Interesting interesting. I've never heard of the Blue Angel, I'll check it out. Yeah if I went the Recto route I would either get a single or mini.

Yeah I've heard of those! Combo and head form, right? They're just Rectos with reverb?

Yeah I agree with you. I'll probably buy more banged up one so I don't have to worry about keeping it in pristine condition. :)
