I built my first Warmoth in 2002.
Version 1:
Flat top mahogany body
Maple/rosewood neck with a fatback profile
JB/'59
Volume/tone- 5 way switch with bridge pup split.
Cream humbucker rings
Black knobs
Sperzel tuning pegs
Red finish (suppose to be like Angus Young's SGs. Turned out a solid color)
Well I decided to get creative and I wired in a kill switch. Well it didn't do what I wanted so I wired in a LP style toggle switch for the Tom Morrello style kill switch effect. Then I didn't really like how I had finished it the first time so I refinished and in doing that I totally screwed up the top.
Version 2:
Same as version 1, but in dark brown and a f'ed up top.
Well it sat in pieces for the next few years and I decided to refinish it again, but this time in awesome 80's paint scheme! Well that didn't workout so well. I played it a few times and it sat in the corner.
Version 3:
Dimarzio Fred in the bridge.
1 volume
Added tummy cut (badly done)
80's finish done with spray paint.
Black humbucker ring
Chrome knobs
Same specs as 1
Well I played it like this for a while, but it sounded really choked off so I decided to attempt a 3rd refinish. I had a lot of problem areas I needed to fix so this guitar is basically getting rebuilt from the ground up. Everything I have grown out of or simply didn't like the way it turned out is getting fixed/changed.
Version 4:
Same specs as 1
Added contours
'JB in the bridge volume and tone control
Added veneer flame maple top
White humbucker ring and knobs
Finished in clear if I do it myself. The maple will be PRS style transparent blue and the mahogany left natural if finished by a professional.
I haven't decided if I filling the neck pickup route or doing something else with it.
Here is a bit of a picture journey....

You can't see the extra switches, controls, or bridge in this photo.
#2
No photos taken. This is when all of the "scaring" took place.
#3
What was I thinking?
I didn't know what to do about the extra switch holes so I just covered them up with some extra output jacks and some bolts.
#4
Reshaping of the headstock (Peavey inspired)
I will be filling and redrilling the holes. As well as adding a veneer.
Stripped the body using heat and circled problem areas
Cutting of the out jack. I had a nasty gouge that would have been impossible to fix so I said "F it! I'm cutting it out; the guitar can't get much worse."
You can see the removed area on top of the guitar.
I am shooting for a combination of these looks
(I don't know who owns this guitar on SDF, but it was awesome and gave me some inspiration!)
I really like the way the veneer and contours were done on the 8 string and I like the coloring of the LP. This guitar will have a little bit of Parker in it too.
For Version 4 I will be keeping the Jazzmaster trem, but adding a roller bridge and nut. I was having some tuning issues before and the bridge was rocking on me. I am reshaping the headstock because it was really big and ridiculous looking and my tuners were not drilled right. Some of the strings would be bent of other tuners.
My goal right now is go buy some sand paper and get the body and the neck all cleaned up. Then get a rasp and start shaping. I have a lot of work ahead of me. Next will any and all filling I need to do. Followed by the veneer. Then finish. wiring. etc. Should be fun! I hope I don't screw it up.
