I like QOTSA, but I feel as though Josh Homme is one of those guy's I'd wind up punching in the face.

I agree with what someone said earlier.. I wanted to like them, cuz of all the hype.. And, I did like Kyuss.. But I cant get into them.. Or Eagles of Death Metal. Try to get into them, but cant.
I dont mind Them Crooked Vultures, although Im not a huge fan..

I liked the first two albums. Regular John, if only and feel good hit of the summer are good songs. After that they became boring. Really boring. Even when they pretend being funny, they end up being like that sarcastic guy who is so proud of his witt while everyone else thinks he is just being an ass.
I think they «lost it» when Nick Oliveri left the band, and never «got it» back.

Their tones are weird but they work for me in an album setting. They sound kind of broken and odd and that's (was?) uncommon so I like it.

Live was a different story. Just atrocious. Their performance was tremendous though, the setlist was pure gold but damn. Hard to listen to.

+1

Their tone in an album setting works for me for the same reason. It is different. Not everyone digs that, but hey, they're still playing guitars.

As far as live tone, it was really inconsistent when I saw them at the Forum a couple of weeks ago. There were points were the tone was muddy. I felt like Troy got lost in the mix at a certain point. Other little things that sounded off.

To be clear, they're a drug band...alcohol, pills, pot etc. "Desert Rock" as they were once labeled...
Some/most of their grooves can be lost on those who don't subscribe to or can't relate to that lifestyle.

There are some good songs on Rated R, Lullabies To Paralyze and their self titled album.

The following three albums you just have to get lost in and go for the ride, submit...release...

Songs for the Deaf - phenomenally cool...
Era Vulgaris - uniquely fun & fantastic...
Like Clockwork - pure hypnotic rock bliss...
