Re: Say...how difficult would it be to build a 'verb tank for an amp?
Buy a danelectro spring king, and put it in the effects loop (if you have one). Job done.
What amp are you looking to put this on? Carvin uses an interesting tube driven system with no transformer on their Vintage Series Nomads and Bel Airs. As far as the tank itself, the parts are way more pricey and difficult to get than would be another reverb tank. You can find broken ones everywhere if you want to experiment, but the transducer system that the springs actually are attached to are pretty tough to work on. They have TINY sleeve magnets on a tensile wire that sits in a laminated magnetic core at each end, with a spring setup strung between, and the induced movement from one end is translated through the springs and picked up (just like how your guitar pickup works) at the other end. If you're looking to add a reverb, it might not be that tough if you use a little TL072 or TL082 opamp driver setup for the in and out on the tank, and make a reverb you can add to pretty much any amp.
