Okay that means that I'd have to wire both the mic and the DI to the mic in on the VTB1 right? Ie. only have one plugged at a time

If I'd use the line-out of the VTB1 to the line-in (called guitar-in on the box i think) on the Firewire solo then I could put the DI directly into the Firewire solo mic in and use the mic through the VTB1 mic in. Would that work?

Usually line in & instrument inputs are set to radically different operating levels & impedances.
Meaning...if you plug the 'wrong' thing in it's gonna be funky.
Some things are 'auto-switching' and can sense if they're being handed a line level signal (around +4dBu @ 600ohms) or instrument level which is around -15dBu & something like 10,000 ohms.
HUGE difference.
That's not to say it isn't going to work...you might not even notice that something is "wrong" because you'll have nothing to compare it to.
