Scored a cheap SC-101 set on Reverb, put them in my mutt Strat. Only played them a short time, but the initial impression is very good. The bridge pickup is really dark, and seems like it would be find without a tone control. Neck and middle are brighter, but balance well with the bridge. I'm not usually into the 2 & 4 positions, but they have a little more ass than normal.

Can anyone compare the SSL-1/1/5 (or 2/2/6) set to these?

The short of it seems to be that they're similar to neck/mid SSL1/2 + bridge 5/6, though the copper shielding tape around the coils gives them a darker sound.

I always understood them to be darker, louder, than vintage singles. I always wanted to try a set through my own rig.

They’re worth checking out if you can grab a set cheap. For under $50, I think I’m done swapping pickups in this guitar.
