Re: Scale question: Phrygian and Mixolydian?
I totally agree DiminisheD-7th... I don't put down theory. It's just that some people have more of a hands-on way of thinking, like in any other aspects in life.
Some people become engineers, some others become carpenters because they prefer manual labour. There's no right or wrong. Yet even carpenters have to know carpentry theory. As a general rule, the more you know of anything, the better you are.
So I simply meant this - some great players, on this board and elsewhere (even legends) are not very good theoricians. You don't HAVE TO know much theory to be a great player. Knowing the inverval between C, E and G will do nothing for your ability to play a C chord. Only practice will.
Someone who doesn't put as much sweat in his practice than he does learning theory will never be a great player, even if he can write a book about guitar theory. It's all I meant
And I think there's something else you're not considering: we are not all as gifted and smart as you are, give us a break
