Schaller fine-tuning Tailpiece?

Hey!

I'm trying to find one of these for my Gibson. It's the one that they used on the Kevin Bond Rhoads or the EVH Wolfgang Hardtail. It looks cool as hell, but I can't seem to find it anywhere!

It's not the Gibson/Schaller TP6. I don't really like the look of those. These look way more thought through.

Also... anyone has any experience with these? Does it work well? Is it good-sounding?

Thanks!

It looks like an FR without the trem? If that's the case, I'd just stay clear.

It's like the fine-tuning part of the FR, yes. But other than that, it's just a tailpiece for a Tune-O setup.

My bridge is the Schaller STM with roller saddles. I guess it's sorta more like a Kahler without the trem, LOL.

Without the hassle of the settup, though. As far as setup goes, I think it's just like a normal Tune-O setup, except with the cool-looking design and ability to fine-tune.

I'm just wary that it's just cheap pot metal and a downgrade in sound from my Gotoh tailpiece.

I can see the appeal. It's definitely unique and if you dig it, go for it. For me, I already have a guitar with a Floyd Rose with those little fine tuners so I would pass but definitely interesting. It's pretty cool that you don't have to worry about loosening the nut gaps with the Allen wrench! Sometimes a Floyd Rose can be annoying:)

I have the Guyker TP6 on s few of mine

Almost never use it ss the habit is to grab the one on the headstock

Looks almost like the Schaller to me. Unless it's changed since this was made? I'd probably just go with that if I couldn't find one on ebay or reverb.

Edit: according to the internet and my eyes, it's the Schaller finer tuner tailpiece. Serious question did you even look at the Schaller before making this post or did you go by memory, thinking that it was the same as the Gibson TP6? Hence your Gibson/Schaller naming?

It actually looks just like the Schaller piece since it doesn't hook around posts like the Gibson version. What you see above is the Wolfgang piece vs the Schaller. Compare the EVH & Schaller vs this Gibson TP6 and you'll see that the TP6 shouldn't be included when speaking about the Schaller tailpiece.

IMO, the EVH Wolfgang & Schaller are the same piece. Here's the link to the EVH Wolfgang from the previous post. Not sure I'd be bunching the 2 together as the Gibson/Schaller TP6 because they're 2 different tailpieces that look completely different. One hooks around posts, the Gibson TP6, while the other, the Schaller, looks just like the EVH Wolfgang tailpiece. It should be the Gibson TP6 and the Schaller/EVH tailpiece.

I think that's where you went astray. You assumed the Schaller and the Gibson were the same when they're 2 totally different tailpieces with only fine tuners and the way the string hooks in being the same. Calling them the Gibson/Schaller TP6 is where you went wrong. It's the Gibson TP6 and the Schaller/EVH piece, as shown, above. Because the EVH piece is WAYYYYYYY closer to the Schaller than the Gibson TP6 is.

No no, I think you misread me. Or I didn't type it correctly, don't know.

But I like the modern-looking Schaller one. The one that's round and kinda looks like a UFO. I don't like the 70's-looking one. I think those were originally made by Schaller, but then Schaller redesigned them. Looks like they're both discontinued now anyway. :(

But the Schaller ones do hook up to the body using the standard post inserts. It's just their top is smaller and fits under the tailpiece.

I want the EVH/Jackson-looking modern version. Not the Gibson-looking 70's version. I believe Schaller originally made those in the 70's as well.

He has a habit of misunderstanding posts that he responds to. I thought your post was very clear.

I have one of the Gibson ones on my Howard Roberts Fusion. They came like that from the factory in 1980.

FWIW
it looks like it works exactly like the TP6
it just mount over the top of the adjustable screws
Instead of around them

I have several guitars with TP6
And like I said
Habit has me ignore them most of the time
