Schaller LockMeister

Re: Schaller LockMeister

The new Floyd by Schaller. C-45 high grade steel plate and specially chosen pivot screws and springs.

How tougher than their regular hardened steel tremolo could it be?

The major difference is this Schaller Floyd has a solid hardened steel baseplate, as compared to the old Schaller Floyd, which had a die cast baseplate with hardened steel knife edge inserts. An Oriiginal Floyd Rose, made by Schaller, is all hardened steel.

A Schaller licensed Floyd Rose is slightly different than an Original Floyd rose- it has a smaller baseplate and shorter bolts, making it look less cumbersome. Basically Schaller was allowed in the past to make a Floyd with their name on it, as long as there were design changes- one of them being a die cast plate. Now that Floyd's patents are up, Schaller can produce a unit with a hardened steel base plate.

Many guitar manufacturers used the Schaller licensed Floyd. It's an excellent unit but some people want an all steel trem, like an OFR. Problem is a Schaller is designed slightly different and needs to be mounted 1/16" closer to the neck. If you replace it with an OFR, the OFR might not intonate properly. So this all steel Schallr Lockmeister is great for anyone that has a worn out Schaller Floyd and wants to replace with with a trem constructed like an OFR.

I have a 1989 Jackson Soloist that I bought used. It came with a Schaller /Jackson Floyd. After 21 years, the with a prior owner that never oiled the parts, I have frozen saddle blocks, and saddle screws that are stripped from the die cast base. Schaller eventually fixed these problems, but this new unit seems to go a step further with fixing all long term problems.

Interesting for a custom project........

I like their range of finishes. Especially their chrome finish (top right) seems to be more to the blue (cold) side to make the difference from nickel (top left) which is warmer looking. I like it.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

I'd love to get one, but can't find anyone in the U.S. that has them

Re: Schaller LockMeister

They seem to be thicker too. Maybe due to the smaller baseplate and because they wanted to keep the mass at the same amount.

Gold - Original
Chrome - Schaller

Re: Schaller LockMeister

What we use to do was have someone we knew across the pond that we trusted with our money and have them get it and have them shipped to us from them. It's a bit of a hassle though and it takes forever. I don't if it's changed any, but Schaller use to take their sweet old time getting orders filled.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

That's a motherflipping Schaller Hannes! I've always wanted to put one on something.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

Anyone tried the Lockmeister yet? I'm looking to replace a JT590LP bridge (TRS) as it's had its best time after 14 years of sweat and abuse. If the Schaller is supposed to be installed 1/16 inch closer to the neck it might solve my intonation problems when downtuning. Can't get the saddle to back off far enough.

Is the C-45 steel the same as the Floyd Rose Original uses?
Does the Lockmeister also come with interchangeable knife edges like the regular Schaller FR?

Re: Schaller LockMeister

Considering that Schaller made the original Floyd Rose for the Floyd Rose company - chances are that it will be 100% the same
If the price is right then it'll be great news

Re: Schaller LockMeister

Hmm, appears to be one solid base as opposed to the regular Schaller FR which has the interchangeable knife edges.
Sucks that there's no place I can get them in black. Delivery time of at least 8 weeks... Got a gig in june and was planning to use my Jackson. Ah well...

Loonities aside, these units should be more readily available now than five years ago. In addition to being, well, the most important part of the guitar, in Europe they ought in addition to be significantly cheaper than an OFR, so I thought it might be something worth looking out for, given Schaller's reputation.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

The LockMeister is awesome. Until FR came out with the 1984 FR, I pretty much think the LockMeister is the best to get since the old 80s Floyds. It's been sounding like QC has been a thorn in FR's side for a while. The 1984 and the Titanium models are helpful. A lot of the complaints seem to some from the licensed versions and the FR Special. I scored a great deal on my LockMeister new off eBay. I'd not hesitate to get another one.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

Please correct me if Im wrong.. Are there any other differences/improvements to this model other than the hardened steel and the corrosion resistant parts? Im just asking cuz with a name like lockmiester, I was expecting some new locking gadget/gimmick... I do like the fact its hardened and the color choices

It's pretty much Schaller putting out the same German unto that they make for FR, but under their own name. It should not be confused with the MUCH cheaper FR Special and FR 1000 series, both from Asia and not as bulletproof as the ones made by Schaller.

I think FR pretty much offer most of the same colors now. When I got my LockMeister, it's the antique copper look. I put it on an all black ESP M-II and it looks VERY cool. Even the nut and string tree and trem arm all have the same finish.

Re: Schaller LockMeister

I am getting the impression that it is an exact copy of the present-day OFR save the name. The colours seem to be pretty much the same, and unlike the traditional Schaller FR I am hard pressed to see any difference when it comes to looks.

Is that so? If that is the case deciding which one to get in Europe seems to be a no-brainer:

vs.

The OFR costs twice as much!

(I suppose few people will have had enough through their hands to compare CQ between the models, but there is no reason why Schaller should let the worse specimen be sold under their name.)
