Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

Ok, I am looking to get myself a 7. I have done much research and hours of debating and finally I have decided to go with the C-7 Blackjack. I choose this because I am sure I won't need to swap out the pickups as it comes with a very nice setup with the JB/59. My only competition with this axe was an Ibanez Apex 2. I am reluctant to buy a "signature" model and I have big ass hands so the Schecter neck may be better for me. I have an Ibby 6 and while the neck is nice and thin, my hand gets kinda cramped playing such a wispy little neck. Anyone have any experience with the Blackjack? Is it worth the $750, I have owned an Omen and it was pretty cool, but the pups sucked ass. Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.

The Blackjack is a much nicer guitar than an Omen. However, considering the way people are selling their guitars at the moment, I wouldn't consider paying $750 for one. On my local Craigslist, I see Hellraisers and Blackjacks for $500 or less fairly often.

imo Schecters are the worst you can buy, WORST...
Ibanez and ESP make vastly better guitars for the same price...

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

Ok, I can respect an opinion, but ESP has no 7's in my range if at all... Ibanez are all basswood which is ok, but not what I want, and I am not at all interested in a floating trem. I hate trems. Honestly, if I had just swapped out the pups in my Omen, it would have been just as good as my RG. I love Ibby's don't get me wrong, but they claim to be the "innovators" of the 7 string and their 7 options just suck. And if I could find an ESP, with the specs I want (fixed bridge or string thru, set neck, mahogany body) I would try one before I picked up the Schecter, nothing is wrong with Schecter, I think they rival Ibanez for low priced, quality guitars.

Schecter's quality is essentially the same as the LTD range of ESPs. You can get blackjacks used for anywhere from 350-450$. Great guitars, access isn't as good as the newer C-7s but even those aren't too awesome.

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

Schecter's can be great but like any guitar...you have to play a few to get the right one. THere set-up's from the factory can be iffy though...like interns who just finished a guitar set up class and who will for nothing.

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

Apart from the JB in the bridge they are great guitars. The JB just isn't tight enough on the low B, but that depends on your style.

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

I agree to look for a used deal.. but they can be fine axes.. I had a C1 Artist (musicians friend exclusive model) and it played and sounded great.. I sold it simply cuz I had to roll something and it was one of the most non unique guitars I had..
As far as build, I often wonder if Schecters, LTD, Michael kellys and more arent all built by the same place. They are all good, very glossy, similar frets and fretwork and features..

Gopher it!!

ignorance is bliss i guess

Schecter and ESP are made in the same exact factory, by the same exact people, out of the same exact materials.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Samick factory that cranks out Epiphones, Deans and Ibanez too.

Just a footnote, Epi now has thier own factory. I believe this is why they have gotten better lately..

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

The schecters I've played are good, but have on big flaw.
On all the tune-o-matic bridges, bending too fast causes the string to stop vibrating. idk if i picked up 2 bad ones, or thats how they all are like, but i dont use them

Re: Schecter C-& Blackjack, worth the cash?

Find yourself a used Ibanez 7620 or 1527.

Thank me later.
