schecter custom shop = haters

drew_half_empty

Looking for Real Life
well given the economic stimulus, a summer of working more, and financial aid come fall, i've been lookin into gettin another guitar

i've been REALLY REALLY impressed with my schec tempest custom, like... it's epi LP price with like low line gibson feel & tone, so i figured screw it, i'll just get a nice guitar through their custom shop, prolly cost less than an LP

so i sent them an e-mail, told em i wanted a cherry burst nitro finish, flame maple top, gold duncan alnico 2 pros, and gold hardware

they e-mailed me back with the price quote of $4000 WITH a poly finish cause they don't offer nitro, and a hard case

now... the hell is that? i can pick up a gibbo lp studio premium plus, which is pretty much the same thing, throw new pickups in it, get it refretted with jumbo frets & STILL be under the schec cost

or get a LP supreme

or this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Custom-Flametop-Electric-Guitar?sku=518321 swap out the pickups & still be under cost

... haters

Then quit bithcing and do it. LOL!

Custom made stuff commands a custom price. Nitro is overrated too BTW.

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

Dude they have to build the guitar from scratch and do it all... The Schecter Custom Shop is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT entitity to the Diamond series. They don't use those as bases...Every custom shops is going to be within those limits.

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

well maybe they need to make more expensive grown man **** so i don't have to go through them

tempest classic comes close but ehhh

yes i am just a p***** off 20 year old and yes this is a rant

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

Thats crazy. I've gotten quotes from the ESP custom shop for around $3000. Schecter's great and all but I wouldn't dream of paying $4000 for one. Hell I wouldn't pay that much for any guitar.

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

$4000 ? Wow, too rich for my blood, highest I would go is a Suhr Pro Series at around 3k...

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

Pick up a Hamer Sunburst, swap hardware and pickups, save over $2000.

Problem solved.

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

really? i thought custom shop price was custom shop price

If they are like any other manufacture, they quote you list price. Order through a dealer and see what kind of price you get.

You should be able to cut that close to half.

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

A little Schecter history so as to help this make more sense.

Schecter, long before the Diamond Series, was a custom shop guitar manufacturer making perhaps THE best Strat and Tele type guitars money could buy (and that was LONG before CNC and Suhr).
Schecter had the name and status builders like Suhr or Tom Anderson worked hard to acquire and only did after a long time.
However obviously that boutique type product wasn't getting as much attention as other production line companies.
Thus, the Korean made, US setup Diamond Series line was introduced.

However, up to this day, the Schecter Custom Shop will make ANY kind of a guitar (be it a variation of one of their offerings or something completely unique) made of absolutely ANYTHING you can think of and they can have access to (I once asked them about a Ziricote fingerboard, they said no problem although it'd take some time to find some), BY SCRATCH, to order.
That means they will, AND ONLY WILL, turn planks of wood into guitars, nothing less.
It's NOT like modifying one of their already made guitars as one wishes...

All that said, yeah, I agree with Virtual Kevorkian and Ayrton that there is a GOOD chance if you ask for a quite from a dealer it'll be substantially less than that.

Oh, and BTW, comparing ANY quality custom made guitar to ANY production one (and an overpriced at that)... nuh-uh...

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

You can do better than that through a dealer but not much to be hoenst...rant all you want, I understand and I have also been there however it won't change a thing. Just get the best stuff you can and roll with it

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

man christian, you're like one of my favorite people on here

like you know your ****... but you're rock & roll as **** at the same time

Yeah... but then it'd be a Gibson... and the USA Schecter would in all likelihood be a KILLER instrument with first rate parts & workmanship. The Gibson... well, it'd be a Gibson. To put it in perspective, if you order a USA Schecter they start with raw wood & it takes at least six months if not a year from when the order is placed... If it's a $4k quote it's probably $2800 street.

I used to own a Schecter USA Tele... killer guitar. Kinda wish I hadn't traded it off most days... Without a doubt it felt a million times better then any Am. Std. Fender... on par with Custom Shop or really, Tom Anderson. I've decided that unless I come across another Tele that just blows me away I'm going to build that guitar again out of USACG parts...

Anyway, sounds like 'ya want a killer LP/Gibbo style instrument...

Get a Hamer.

Play on man. Play on...

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

yeah but like people know me with it now. Like a few of the dudes in metal bands around here rock tempests, and like a ton of other ones own other schecters, but i'm playin like old school rock & stoner rock on mine, rockin the coil taps those dudes never touch & all that. I'm gettin chrome pickup covers & a '59 for the bridge here in a few days, it'll be a rock machine with the jazz neck & the coil taps

anyways, that was my plan to take that guitar i found by a brand that makes a buncha stuff i'd never touch & just rock it out with the gold & the flametop cherry burst, alnico 2 pro's & jimmy paige wiring, it'd just be cool

so yeah, that's why i want this

Re: schecter custom shop = haters

If you really wanna do it then do it. You'll have a guitar that's built 100% to your specs... most likely for under $3000.

Personally, I can't spend $3k on a single guitar... I've spent that much (more!) on a single piece of audio gear like a microphone or something but it's different...

I'd drop $3k on a custom Schecter before I dropped that on a Gibson... ESPECIALLY if I couldn't play it first...

But really, I'd get a Hamer before messing around with any of that other stuff.

My next "Lester" will probably be a Hamer...
