Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

I have a Schecter Hellraiser with EMGS and not real crazy about the sound, I bought a set of SD (Jazz and JB).

Question 1:
Since the guitar did not have a bridge ground, how can I ground it? It has a tune-o-matic bridge and did not come with that grounded from the factory (EMG's dont ground I guess) and there is no access to it. I would think there would be noise if I dont ground it somewhere.

Question 2:
I bought some new 500k pots (All-Parts EP 0086-000 ctc) to replace the EMG ones but the shaft is a speck to big to pass thru the original hole and the original knob wont fit. I would like to get a push pull or some type of coil splitting pot, anyone know one that might fit, and are they really noisy when switching?

Someone please help, I really want to get this set working.
Thanks

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

You'll have to get a wire to the bridge or tailpiece so the strings will be grounded. Might have to bust out the old drill.

As far as opening up the holes, do you have a Dremel tool? They're fantastic for stuff like that.

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

I did this exact swap. I didn't like the sound at all with EMGs, the sound with the duncans is absolutely incredible. I was gonna sell it before the duncans, now its one of my main axes.

Anyway, i just took a drill bit and opened the holes up a tiny bit, they only need to be widened by a tiny tiny bit, just go very very slow, and use a very high speed and your finish will not crack or chip.

As for the grounding i have a ground wire in mine, but in other guitars i just grounded to the switch box.

Good luck you will be very happy. I'm trying Some Dimarzios next week, and Air zone bridge and Air norton neck. I'll post my results.

...That doesn't work, really.

Passives needed to be grounded to the strings, because they use your body as a ground. As long as you're touching metal on the guitar, it's grounded.

Schecter routes all of their bodies the same, AFAIK (as there's so many C-1 variants that share the same control layout), so there should be a hole to the bridge.

I'm just confused as to why you got a Hellraiser if you don't like EMG's?

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

I found some new pots that will work at Guitar Center and got them hooked, they sound great but do have a little hum. I ran a jumper from ground to bridge and that fixed it. Nice and quiet. I just now have to figure out how to get it permanent. If anyone has done this, I would still like an idea before drilling a hole.

I bought this guitar because it had the features I really wanted. Set neck, string thru, tune-o-matic bridge, wood, etc. I already have a Gibson with the EMG set and wanted something different and didnt play the Schecter as much, and felt the SD's would give it more tonal variations, and really couldnt find a better guitar with those features. There is the other Schecter with the vine of life inlays, but I didnt care for that one.

I do like EMGs, just not in this particular guitar

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

That is so weird that you don't have a ground wire in there are you sure there isn't one? I'm positive that my EMGs were wired to this wire, its a hole at the top of the cavity with one small black wire hanging out. Did you cut it on accident? If there isn't one then Schecter needs to put one in there for your because thats a flaw in the guitar.

Also yeah you know what i used the switch box as a common ground and then wired it to the bridge wire, thats right i didn't JUST use the switch sorry.

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

There is no ground wire, I double checked. I am going to pull all the strings this weekend to see how i can pull the bridge and run a ground. The new pickups sound great tho, even with a little noise.

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

What amp are you using? The only thing i don't like about the JB is its a little buzzy at high gain so i'm thinking of changing it out for something clearer with a tighter bottom.

Did you even have the hole there for the wire?

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

dude he already has the pickups in. Not to mention all other c-1s are completely different guitars. Pick up a hellraiser sometime and feel that neck. I've had the classic, blackjack, exotic, elite, and hellraiser and the hellraiser has a PRS like neck and the tone is totally different (bigger) than the other c-1s.

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

I own a C-1 Hellraiser, but I haven't tried any other C-1's (unless the C-7 Hellraiser counts). Since the SD's are top of the line & EMG's are top of the line, it makes more sense to me to buy the guitar with the pups you want already in it. If the Hellraiser came with lower-end pups, it'd make more sense to me. Moot point, I guess.

Well i sold my EMGs for $140 on ebay so you actually get your money right there to pay for hte new pickups. ANd the blackjack and classic have a totally different look. If i was in the market for a hellraiser i wouldn't be looking for the classic or blackjack. I owned both, classic is awesome but the vine inlay sucks BAD it throws you off while you're playing and just doesn't look good. The blackjack uses a maple neck instead of mahogany and it doesn't look that great in person, never did much like the looks of my blackjack. Good guitar though.

Sorry dude, it's identical. I've got a Stealth and Blackjack to my left... I've owned a Classic, Hellraiser, and Plus.

All the necks were identical.

DUDE i HAVE an elite, exotic, and hellraiser right here and the exotic and elite have a much thinner nut width, and the hellraiser is rounded at the tops, the hellraiser has a MUCH bigger neck. I had the blackjack and its neck is exactly the same as the elite, and i had it at the same time as the hellraiser i play the hellraiser when i'm in the mood for a big chunky neck :smack:

I agree, thats why I got the Hellraiser, I liked the feel of the neck. Still havent found a way to ground it to the bridge, and I dont like the idea of drilling. I guess I will take it to the shop.

Re: Schecter Hellraiser EMG to Seymour wiring question

sorry I have to resurrect this because I had the same problem in my Hellraiser hybrid. Easy fix. remove strings, remove bridge, take hammer, use claw of hammer against the screwed in post head to pull out the pressed in post closest to the controls. Use a book or something to protect your guitar obviously. Once you've pulled out the post you'll see a hole where you can run your ground wire into the cavity. run it. solder one end to the back of the tone pot, then leave the other end bare and install the post right on top of it. Use a rubber mallet to hammer the post back in and reinstall. You can double check your work with a multi meter if you want. Switch to the continuity setting and touch one end to the post, and the other to the inside of the jack. enjoy. I would make a new thread but I'd rather go play now :)2017-11-10 23.24.26.jpg2017-11-10 23.24.54.jpg2017-11-10 23.25.08.jpg2017-11-10 23.26.20.jpg2017-11-10 23.27.59.jpg2017-11-10 23.57.04.jpg
