Schecter revenger basswood?

So i sanded the top of my schecter revenger today and to my surprise it appears to be a 3 piece basswood and mahogany body. I was under the impression it was all basswood as that's what there website said. I guess you cant really trust whats listed in the specs by the company? at the end of the day who knows unless you sand it back.

Anyway unless i am mistaken as i am no wood expert,

This is mahogany right????? And the reason its so light is because its only been sanded down to the sealer.

Doesnt look like mahogany to me. Its a bit darker than normal basswood but maybe that section of wood was treated different for whatever reason

I think i will have to take some better pictures, The two woods just look so different up close.

But as i said i know **** about identifying woods.

better pics would help but looking at those here the color is way inconsistent in that piece making me think its something like that piece has some sort of staining or something else darkening it if thats mahogany its god awful bottom shelf should have used for a dog house mahogany

Not the highest end spec guitar that's for sure teh whole center section runs on a angle.. Its hard to get clear pictures because theres sealer still on it.
Not sure why they would stain the middle section? Are there darker species of basswood? hmmmm anyway i guess it doesn't really matter in the end, i was just curious.

And whatever the case the middle seems a lot harder, i can put a fingernail mark easily into the lighter colour wood but the middle just bent my nail haha, There are also small dark lines that run all through it.

That's weird, if one is harder than the other, they're no doubt different.

The wings are definitely basswood, I'd say - pale creamy/yellow, faintly discernable grain.

The middle could be mahogany, often red/golden brown, many open pores, like so:

If it doesn't look like that (a damp rag test would show it), it may be something else.

Yeah the pictures where done after a damp spit test ha its still rather milky from sealer.. the middle does have some characteristics of mahogany like the small dark lines in the grain the hardness and the colour....I just cant see it being basswoodc as they look so different .

Hmm, ok, not mahogany, those slightly darker 'blotches' make it something else. If it had a more pronounced grain, I'd say alder but not sure.

What do the spec sheets say for this particular model?

Just basswood nothing else.

You keep focusing on that darker patch behind the bridge and by the knob holes... Whats the grain look like higher up where its not so dark like between the pickups?

Onyl did that because that's where the wood was most exposed. Either way it doesn't matter now i did a white wsh on it in prep for my design. Thanks for the help anyway
