Re: School me on Trainwreck amps.
The majority of musicians in the big orchestras actually hire/rent the instrument because they can't afford to buy one. Insane.
For a top notch Italian (Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesu) you're looking at $1-2m for sure as you said.
Plus, you have to be a very well respected violinist or cellist to even be offered 1 to play. Perlamn plays a 294 year old Stradivari called "The Soil" & Sir Yehudi Menuhin played it before Perlman so that's the level you're looking at. Gil Shaham also plays a Strad.
Menuhin & Perlman played Guarneri's as well as so have Heifetz, Szeryng, Ysaye and other top level players so no hack gets a top Italin violin! Ha ha.
If you played violin in a mediocre orchestra like the Denver Symphony you'd have to invest $50K or much, much, much more for a decent Italian or French fiddle. http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-19th-centur...&_trkparms=72:1240|66:1|65:12|39:1|240:1308If If you you were a soloist touring with major orchestras you'd be looking at closer to a million for a great Italian violin.
