SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Got it all for $660 not inc tax. There's another head just like it at McFayden music in Fayetteville right now. If you want it you'd better cook with gas getting there when it opens tomorrow. Blowout sale ends Sunday. McFayden is closing their doors forever due to GC's encroachment.

Edana Head and Cab, Marshall 15w tube combo, and now an XXX 1/2 stack. Did somebody rob Aunt Bee's Diner in Mayberry?

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

wow you wont beat that price...you coul flip it and make 100$ on ebay...you should buy both of them?

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

I just couldn't pass it up. I've literally maxxed out the room in the truck and have no more room for stuff. The 4x12 cab is wrapped in shrink wrap in the back of the truck when I travel (It's in the hotel room with me now as Fayetteville is not like Mayberry) The reason I bought it was to flip it. Hearing it makes me wanna keep it and play with it for a little bit. I'll try to keep everything in A+ condition and might just flip it later. The Marshall was bought to flip too at a later date for more money. I'll play them and enjoy them for now though. I've seen dudes pay $900 for them used, so I could potentially flip the package for a bit more than I paid.

So far I'm liking what I've heard. I think it will sound better with a mix of different speakers. G12H30's seem to call this amp's name because the heaps of bass response they offer and the marshally tone they give.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

that is awesome mang! I would keep and play that thing too before I sell it - awesome!

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

The XXX is one of my favorite amps, ever - great score! I'd be happy to get the head for that on eBay!

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Thinking about getting the second one for offing on ebay for a profit to help sweeten this deal even further. If one of our tone bro's in Fayetteville wants the head that's left, you'd better snag it before I come back through later on today. I'll buy it specifically to off it on ebay for more money back which would reduce the price already paid on this amp and cab combo by another $200+. I could probably sell it for $799 BIN on evilbay in pretty short order if it's still new in box complete with factory warranty (the one that would be sold off is such an amp).

GJ - The only clunker I have is a Silvertone 1482. It's gonna go on evilbay soon.

Hey Gr8Scott, you remember any other good deals? My McFaydens just closed out too, and they had a brand new Gibson LP Standard for like, $1200! Also, how much do you like the XXX cab? That's my ideal rig right there, a 5150 through a XXX cab, because those XXX speakers are modeled after V30's. We might have to go rob a bank. ;) Congrats on the sweat score, I guess everybody's gettin' lucky huh? :D

Awesome deal dude! If you could do it, buy the other and then flip it on ebay as mentioned above.

My Christian faith doesn't alllow me to own an amp named "XXX".

I could have gotten one had it been called "PG13"

those Peavey XXX mudflap girls on that amp head rock! I mean, christians can look like that right? maybe they are straight edge:laugh2:

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Someone snagged the other head before me. My luck was pretty darned good last night, so I can't complain about what I did or didn't do. Live and learn I guess. Anyway, I finally opened the box and made sure nothing was missing (power cord, pedal, cable etc). Everything is there and is unused. Tomorrow night, Brisk and I will meet over at TheOdie's place and give this amp a workout.

Pulled into the hotel tonight in Portsmouth VA. The speaker cab was in the back of the truck and it was pouring buckets outside. I just had to keep my fingers crossed that the shrink wrap and trash bags would do their job for me. Seems like they held up fine as the cab is sitting high and dry in my hotel room with me. Good stuff! Shrink wrap saves the day!!!

Uno - No chance pal. I'd love to help you out, but there's no way you're getting your mitts on this cab. I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya and notify you of any deals I see on such a cab.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

When you finally get around to cranking it up, remember to keep it on the Loose mode (the others are way too compressed) and play around with the Crunch channel more than anything - best channel on the amp IMO.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Sure thing. I've heard that the amp breathes a bit better when in loose mode. Theodie and I will be turning it into an EL-34 ouput section while we monkey with it. I want to make it less of a mesa sounding amp and more of a hot-rodded marshall sound (ala bogner). I've seen reviews that tout the crunch channel as the star of the show. I'll be sure to explore it plenty. The ultra channel seems a bit overcompressed and has far more gain on tap than is useable, but maybe it can be made useful by toning the V2 tube down to a less gainy ECC82 or ECC81. That would probably help alleviate the uber-compression the amp has. Of course, this could steal the thunder from the crunch channel, so I'll have to experiment a little as I'd like to have three useable channels with the ultra channel being more than just a novelty. I think this amp can possibly be fashioned into a really versatile amp if properly massaged. I needed a high gain amp to play the drop tuned/detuned metal stuff (can't play damageplan with low gain) and this amp seems to be more than enough to fill that bill. Maybe I can A/B switch it with the Edana using the Edana for mid-low gain applications and strat friendly stuff and the XXX for the humbucker specific high gain stuff.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

It's definitely a versatile beast, when it comes to high-gain tones.

It's not that the Ultra channel is useless, by any means, it's just more compressed and processed sounding than the crunch channel, which works great for searing lead tones and some super tight chug, but it's really just a more compressed crunch channel with a notch more gain.

Both channels have unholy amounts of gain - I never put the crunches gain past 4.

just checking.... it didn't sound quite right but you never know

In the event that Brisk was a hard core christian, he'd have to cancel his subscription to Domestic Discipline Digest.
