SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Hey Gr8Scott, you remember any other good deals? My McFaydens just closed out too, and they had a brand new Gibson LP Standard for like, $1200! Also, how much do you like the XXX cab? That's my ideal rig right there, a 5150 through a XXX cab, because those XXX speakers are modeled after V30's. We might have to go rob a bank. ;) Congrats on the sweat score, I guess everybody's gettin' lucky huh? :D

I'm thinking that a 5150 + V30's would result in an upper-mid spike nightmare.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Actually, the best I'd ever heard a 5150 was through the XXX cabinet, which is why I want one so bad. That'd be cool, a 5150 4x12 on the bottom, with a slant XXX 4x12 on the top. I nice mix of that Greenback flavor with V30 mojo.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Just wanted to pipe in about the V30's in aggressive amps. It's a marriage made in heaven if you want aggressive tone. For a non-classic/hair metal head, the V30 loaded cab with a 5150 would be a wicked tonal match. The V30's just have a throaty growl to them and a tight low end that never gets flabby. Good for scooped metal, thrash, black, doom, etc....

damn so you basically got the head for like $400-$450 OMG dude i HATE YOU!

Also guitar center is now buying out Sam Ash! Its official

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Man, we should start a club. "Lucky SOB's who got their high gain Peavey heads for under 5 bills". I forgot, or maybe I never knew in the first place, where are you based out of Gr8Scott?

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Where did you have in mind? Me and the missus were actually talking about a little trip tomorrow, but couldn't choose where. I was thinking Wilmington, whatcha' got? I'm gonna' google mount airy real quick.

Edit: Whoa! You're way out past Raleigh. Man, that's a stretch, I dunno' if my poor old POS Dodge would make it. If you're ever within an hour of Jacksonville, or passing through, shoot me a PM and I'll getcha' some grub or something, we can shoot the ****.

Hey Bro, congrats on that purchase! I'm kicking myself for not doing the same thing when our McFadyen closed (I'm in Myrtle Beach). For the record, I believe the reason for them closing isn't because of GC. Since they were purchased by Brook Mays Music Group, they've gone downhill. Over the past few years, they've been carrying less and less of what people wanted. For instance, a lot of people around here wanted, and were buying Line 6 gear. So what did they do? They dropped Line 6. Same with DSL's and TSL's, they simply stopped getting them in. I believe it's possible that Brook Mays bought McFadyen with the plan of the, going under. Sometimes, failure is a hell of a tax shelter, somehow or other.

Interesting. Either way, It's been fun for me. Soon it will also be profitable for me because I'm gonna off this amp. It's cool, but it just isn't versatile enough for me. Lower gain stuff isn't much of a possibility. Harmonics are tough with this amp for some reason even though it has gobs of gain. You have to have the gain up to rediculous levels to get a pinch harmonic to ring out nicely. With the gain up that high, you can hardly control the guitar and you get a huge thud when picking as a result. Sounds like a meteor hitting the ground and NOT like music. With the gain reduced to a manageable level, this amp has a good distorted sound, but it's all nu-metal pretty much. Something is odd about the gain structure. Can't seem to completely dial out the fizzyness.

hey did you just list this on ebay, i'm pretty sure its yours but i saw a head and cab where the seller says the head is like new with few hours and the cab is a demo model, reason for buying was purely to flip it for profit. I take it thats yours? $799 for both? Still and incredible deal at that!

Yep. That's me. I'll be making a slim profit, but nothing to write home about. Found something I want more.

this is the way i felt about this amp when i played it, had sort of a synthetic sound to it. Same with the JSX, both had no soul/tone. you could get some great sounds but it was missing tone.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

Exactly. I worked it until it was a reasonable facsimile, but it's still not for me. Improved vastly, but still not good enough. Top end is fizzy and it doesn't matter what you do to get rid of it. You have to throw a blanket over it to calm the fizz down and that kills the little tone it does have.

Re: SCORE!!! NIB Peavey XXX w/ matching cab.

I think you guys need to use a better cabinet with it or change your technique on PH's or something...

I've never had a problem getting any soul, tone, harmonics, or less fuzz out of an XXX when run through a proper cabinet. (Honestly, the Peavey cabs are ****)
