scored a Ross distortion - I digs it!

Found an old (black version) Ross distortion in a store recently. Bought it on impulse and it's my cup of tea - nice gain sound. For 25 bones, I'm not complaining!

Anyone else use one (or a clone)?

Am I correct in that the only difference b/w the highly-sought-after tan one and the black is that the latter were made in Taiwan? Same schematic you think?

Re: scored a Ross distortion - I digs it!

I had the tan one in high school. I loved it then, though when I heard good tube overdrive I realized how raspy it was. Things come full circle though I guess, cuz the nu metal sound of a Rectifier has a bit of that same raspy, hazy quality, just bigger sounding, with a lot more bass.

I think it also has a bit of the raspiness of a Rat pedal. A bit like a Rectifier, a little like a Rat. I totally can see the pedal being a great choice for harsh, abrasive punk.

Mine was stolen when I left it in a green room with my amp and my band's gear overnight when we were playing in a school talent show.

yeah, it's got a fair amount of rasp. It's like the missing link between distortion and overdrive! thanks for chiming in.

funny you should mention punk. i'm a punk trapped in a metalhead's world. or a metalhead that wishes he were punk. at any rate, crossover thrash is my bread-n-butter.

There are a lot of artists/bands blurring the line these days anyway. Those handles are convenient for getting some idea of what a band sounds like if you're thinking of buying their CD or going to see them if you haven't heard them, but it comes down to if it sounds good, it is good!

hah heavy metal and punk rock are the same thing. the only real difference is quality of solos and whether or not you growl when you sing...either way it's about getting a sweet, heavy, dirty tone to assemble into bad-ass riffs about whatever you want to sing about.

Does Ross have anything to do with Boss? I like my Boss distortion pedal..

Re: scored a Ross distortion - I digs it!

I have a black one and didn't like it a lot back then (when I was 15). From what I remember, I should like it now though ;)... the only problem is: it's not working anymore... I've tried more than once to fix it but can't seem to do it... I'd really love to be able to, I hate having something not working laying around, even when I'm not using it properly.

I love the 50-60w solid state ross amp. Had one as a fill-in back about 10 years ago when my blues deville was in the shop. really liked that amp.
