Hello!

This post will have to serve as an introduction as well as a solicitation. My name is Scott French and I’m a guitar builder from Northern California. My first experience with SD was at the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery and I used them on my first few guitars. When I finally started up my own shop I bought into the SD OEM program (Thanks Kellie!) and ended up with a lot of pickups. I build slowly and it seems like every customer wants something other than what I keep around… That being said I have a lot of pickups left sitting on the shelf. This is the first guitar I’ve finished in the past 4 years that wasn't going to a customer so I chose to use a set of those orphaned SD pickups from my OEM purchase.

The pickups I used are a set of 18-volt Livewire Metal Humbuckers with a Livewire Classic Single Coil in the Middle. These are by far the highest output pickups I’ve ever heard. They make for a weird combination with the classic/retro style but I think it ended up working pretty well. Anyway, onto the guitar itself along with some specs:

I built this instrument as a sort of tribute to Leo Fender. Like I mentioned before it's the first guitar I've been able to complete in the past few years that hasn't been customer driven so I'd love to hear any feedback anyone out there might have. I guess you could call it a pet project as I'm a big Leo fan... and a big paisley fan.

$2450 with Deluxe TKL Hardshell Case. If you are interested or have any questions please post or email me at mail@scottfrench.com. Not a big PM fan.

Thanks for looking,
Scott French

That is a Bad-A looking guitar! Welcome aboard. I hope to see ya jump in on some discussion too!

Very cool!

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

Oh man oh man... That thing just OOOOOOzes a unique vibe. I, personally, might not be into the LiveWires, but the guitar itself is gorgeous!

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

I'm impressed, you should make a photo journal of building your next guitar. Those are always really enjoyed on this site.

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

what is the body style this is based on? I swear I've seen a Yamaha that has the same body shape.

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

oh man I just seriously made the mistake of clicking the link, and then looking at the other guitars in your gallery...particularly the bases..YOWZAH! Great instruments man. They're outta my price range, but amazing work.

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

Hey, thanks a lot for looking and the comments everyone!

cream123, I recently noticed Yamaha has a similar horn only in reverse (they have it on the treble side). The SF3 is based on the SF1 (with some SF2 themes), which is based on the SF0, which is based on the Warwick Dolphin, which is based on...? I've got fairly wordy write up on designs on my site.

Smilemon, this is one of the few instruments I DIDN'T take any progress photos of. I just wanted to enjoy the process without having to remember to take photos every step of the way. I take a lot of progress photos for my customer's guitars.

grumpy, gotta love the pink! I had a reissue pink paisley tele bass for a while and always loved that style. This is certainly the flower power metalman's guitar. :)

When I clicked this thread, I thought I was having an acid flashback! LOL

I'm still trying to figure out the nut/first fret on that guitar. Cool guitar, but it needs different knobs. Chicken head knobs don't work well on guitars IMO.

Joneser ,if you go to his website, you can see better closeups of his nut design

here's a shot of one on a bass...

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

I can totally picture Prince playing that.

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

Aside from the pickups and the chicken heads, that is a truly sweet guitar. Somehow Live Wire Metals don't seem appropriate in a pink paisley pickguard ...

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

Gearjoneser, the first fret is actually the zero fret. The little rivets are just string guides to match the braille logo.

CapoFirstFret, that bass is a little different than the latest guitars because the delrin elements on there are actually acting as the nut(s). That was the first progression on the idea and I'm sure there will be more variations in the future as well.

JOLLY, I've heard that a few times and I'd love to make a guitar for Prince. :)

ratherdashing, the chicken heads are a little strange but I like them so much and they don't fit with any of my 'normal' work. For the volume and tone they are okay but on the rotary pickup switch the pointer works really well. It almost works out so the active pickup is being pointed at by the knob.

Re: Scott French Pink Paisley SF3-CLF Available Now

It's very refreshing to see that someone is thinking 'outside the box' these days. I love some of your design concepts and ideas. Keep up the great work.

Hey Mig, what's going on in bossieland? I missed the last Norcal show because of my sister's engagement party. Hopefully I'll catch the next one but other than that haven't heard anything from that crew at all.

Thanks, Bluzboy66!
