SCR-1n, SHR-1b, SVR-1 HELP PLEASE

Hi,

I need help as i have emailed Seymour Duncan and there's been no reply.

I am doing some pickup replacements for my friend. He bought an old squier strat and a new 5-way switch and 250k pots and decided to follow this advice from the Seymour website after listening to the samples; 'For an incredibly versatile guitar, use an SCR-1n in the neck position along with an SHR-1b Hot Rails in the bridge and an SVR-1n Vintage Rails in the middle.'

I have wired up the pickups exactly as the wiring schematic for each pickup says and they are working....but only in the middle three switch positions, not in either of the end positions. I understand that these are different types of pickups as they come with different wiring schematics, so i looked on the Seymour website to see if there was a diagram for this combination, however Vintage Rails seem to be isolated to only one schematic (which consists of three of them) none in combination with the others.

What is the problem?
Have i wired the pickups incorrectly and if so what schematic should i use?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

it doesn't matter if the schem has vintage, cool, or hot rails, or JB Jr., '59 Jr., Demon Jr., or Pearly Gates Jr. They all use the same schems, and the colors are same.

actually the vintage rails is wired in parallel, whereas the cool & hot rails are wired in series.

Without having any idea which schematics you are looking at it's hard to tell what's going on. Could be a problem in how the three diagrams were combined, could also be a non-standard switch. Hard to say.

There are a couple different diagrams on the site specifically for 3 rails pickups. Which one you use depends on how the guitar is to function. Do you want to split the rails in the notch positions? Do you want series or parallel operation operation of the vintage rails?

Iron Horse, the "old style" Vintage Rails was internally wired in parallel and was therefore a 2 conductor pickup. At the same time the bobbin was redesigned for the rails pickups Seymour Duncan decided to make the VR 4 conductor, giving us the option of series or parallel.

Thanks very much for your advice.
Well to be honest i don't know how i want it to be wired as this is my first guitar project. I'm a bassplayer so have no experience wiring strat's and am only doing it because i have more soldering and wiring experience than my friend, sorry if that makes me sound stupid lol.

Which wiring would give the most versatile amounts of tone etc?
I dont really mind as long as the switch works in all positions and gives a varied amount of tones.

At the moment i have wired the Cool and Hot Rails according to this schematic (which is the one that came with them) http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3stks2_1v_2t_5way
and the Vintage rails according to this one: http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=duckbuckers_vintager

Again all help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Hmm, if that's really how you've wired it then things should be fine. If both the 1 and 5 positions aren't working properly then that might suggest a non-standard switch. However, I'd first double check all my wire paths.

Okay, thanks very much for your advice, im glad i've wired it right. I just hope i can get it working now, thanks again.
