Scratches on the side of fret

Hi all,

I just noticed that one of my guitars has very noticeable scratches on one of its frets (the fret closest to the neck pickup). The scratches are on the side of the fret facing the neck pickup, and can only be seen in certain lighting. I have some questions:

1. The scratches are only on the side of the fret, and not on the top. Does this make it merely a cosmetic issue?

2. Can some scratches be so deep that they can't be polished/buffed out?

I appreciate any responses! Thanks!

Photo's are always great for reference in these cases. As are details about the guitar itself.

Might be just 'scratches' from working on the fret's edges, as in smoothing them down.

Just stop thinking about it.
