scratchy sound when rubbing back of guitar??

hey guys,
i was playing today and I noticed when the back of the guitar body is rubbed or even the back plate cover of the tone and volume pots is rubbed, i can hear some sort of scratchy sound through the amp. Also, I never had this before but when I knock on the guitar's body, i can hear my knocking through the amp.

Can this be fixed?? whats the solution?

Any info would help.

Thanks,
Duke

I can hear the knocking thru my amp when playing with my LP at high gain/volume settings, but I'm not terribly bothered by it. I'd be interested in knowing the reason for this as well.

Sounds like static electricity...the scratching noise I mean. Try wiping it with a anti-static pad like you'd use in a clothes drier.

As for the knocking sound when you tap on the back of the guitar: best cure for that is not to do that.

probably just the vibration of it being strached/whatever resonating through the body passing to the pickups. I can only assume as the sound isnt being picked up in the usual way itll sound different to as intended. Jus the same when you hit your guitar!

While the rest is great, I still cannot understand why people blame their own failures on inanimate objects and then "punish" them as if the object really cared or they were hurting someone other than themselves

Other examples:

Throwing or "focusing" skateboards
Hitting PCs
Throwing Tennis rackets
Punching walls (Watch the wall laugh when you break your hand on a beam:D:D)
etc, etc ;)

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: ...You took the words right out of my mouth ... Yeah that's called normal, as resonations (not sure if that's a real *word*) carry through the body and thru the strings, of course even with potted pups, that physical knock is going to transfer to moving the coil a bit ... instant signal created. Yeah, if it bugs ya ... then don't do that ...

Well, then there was the time a drunk friend of mine decided to take his own short comings up on a solid brick wall ... Well, that was intelligent my friend, would you like to go to the ER now, or go ahead and punch with the other hand so you can have a matched set ...

Re: scratchy sound when rubbing back of guitar??

sometimes its necessary to vent on inanimate objects... hopefully ones you don't have much of affection for. drunk Guy at the dorms last year wanted to be the sh*t out of some guy... led him outside to smoke a cigarette, and vent on a palm tree. F***ed up his hand, but he was fine after that!

(Is a palm tree inanimate though? It is alive... whatever)
