Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

The Demon8 is an awesome pickup... i highly suggest it. Super thick, yet still very clear, tight bottom, rounded highs... The rhythm chugs, and the solo voice sound much like a neck pickup...

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

depends what you're going for, A8 is going to give it a big kick in the mids as well as fatten up the highs

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

A8's are worth a try in any bridge PU, when you want strongs mids, a tight low end, and just enough treble to cut thru. The high output balances well with a neck HB.

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

The right wood makes a big difference too. Demons sound great in Basswood but not much else. IMO of course.

I've had them in all mahogany, mahogany/maple, all maple, alder, ash, and basswood as well as a hollow mahogany/maple axe and it sounded great in all of them. Lots of clarity, good low end chunk, and lots of pick attack with a growly, woody midrange reminiscent of a PAF. It can get a bit thin in the wrong guitar, but I think that's more to do with the inherent tonality of the instrument it's in.

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

I like my pickups a bit warmer. If anything, an Alnico II, but to be honest, I'm just not crazy about the wind. It's completely personal, but I just don't dig it. Give me a Seth or an Antiquity or an APH-1. Or go the other way and toss me a Custom.

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

I imagine an A8 demon would be superb in the bridge. Ive only tried the regular demon in the neck position but it was really great. Its surprisingly good in the neck.

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

I love the stock demon too...obviously, with all my posts about it! For almost everything I do it's great...now I'm in need of a lil more tightness in the bass spectrum and am going to put an a8 in it...I'll post on that when I get around to it!

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

I'm a little concerned about it sounding like a neck pickup for leads. That's a sort of mid '80's tone I don't care for.

I should have also asked about the A2.

Thanks for the repsonses, keep them coming. :fing2::fing2:

I don't know brother...my stock demon sounds nothing like any neck pickup I've ever played thru before...it's thick alright...but I really like the harmonic content it seems to have thru my rig. I ain't gonna lie and tell ya it's the be all-end all!!! With my current setup beyond the input jack it works quite well! I'm now lookin for a lil more crispness for galloping and those shadows fall type of rhythms! That's why I'm lookin at an a8!

not so much it sound like a neck pickup, it sound rounded like a neck pickup, so its not piercing... just really smooth with enough top end to still bite

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

First post here, I've been thinking about a Lil Screamin' Demon myself, but I had no idea there were different models. I know they updated the housings for their single coils, but what's A4 A5 and A8 all about? Are they custom shop pickups?

Regular, hb sized demons....not the lil version, which is ceramic.

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

Still, I see no option for this on the Seymour Duncan website..what's the difference?
These are DIY pickups :werd:
I currently have a Demon 8 in my Superstrat. I did a polescrew swap too. The allen screws are all on the bass strings to get mellow highs.

I have read about forumbro which is using a stock Demon in the neck and the Demon8 in the Bridge. Great idea

Re: Screamin Demon A4 A5 or A8?

Nothing wrong with the factory Demon. I've thought about swapping the A5 for an A2, but I'm happy with the current tone so I haven't bothered.
