Has anyone used a Demon/Shred-n combination? I was looking at the SD Tonechart and noted that the Screamin Demon has similar attributes of the Custom, 'cept for the magnet type.
What does the Alnico magnet do in difference to a ceramic magnet?
I've read some posts here saying the Full Shred is a good pickup to use for several styles of music than just metal, as the name may lead one to think. I'm wondering if it's a good pup to use in the neck of a Les Paul for some good vintage clean rock tones, as well as having a little kick when boosted or distorted? I was also thinking that it would be wise to keep the magnet types the same in a set, and since I really like the Custom type of output, that the Screamin Demon would be a good match for the Full Shred.
I have a Schecter C-1 Classic with SD Alnico magnet pickups in it, and they sound excellent. I've thought about putting the JB/Jazz set in a Les Paul I just bought, but I already have a solid body archtop with 'em in that C-1, so I thought it would be nice to mix it up a little with this newest addition and give it a little flair, yet maintain great clean tones. I have an Epi LP that has a Custom/PG set in it, and like that sound pretty good. But if need be, I can always put the PG/b I have on the shelf back into the bridge of the Epi and use the Custom for this new Pauly.
Or, maybe I should just use a Custom I already have in a guitar I don't use much anymore (Epi G400) and add a Duncan Distortion to it, and slap those in this Pauly...keeping it an all-ceramic set.
Decisions, decisions....
Any thoughts?
I tried to decipher the difference between pickups at the soundbytes page, but as you all know, it's too difficult to go by those to imagine what the pickup will sound like in your axe. That's one thing I wish this website would do....improve the sound samples of it's line of pickups with different guitars. There's enough of us here using SD's, Seymour could get plenty of soundbytes from forum users alone.
