Screamin' Demon screws too long?

Hey all, I threw the SD in the neck of my CE24 this weekend and ran into a small problem. I couldn't adjust the height correctly because it only went so low before the screws hit the bottom of the cavity (they're pretty long). Actually, it hit the base of the neck; I'm not sure if this is just a PRS thing, but the neck base actually extends inside the neck pup cavity.

Needless to say, the sound was a bit too overdriven, which I thought was because the pickup is too high. Assuming I keep it in this guitar, can I trim the screws down to a normal height? I would really rather not cut any wood.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

The polew piece screws?

You can snip them with a pair of dykes. It'll tighten up the pickup a bit while slightly increasing output.

Yeah, the pole piece screws. I don't really want to increase the output, though.

I'd just snip 'em. If you don't like the change, buying new polepieces will cost you all of a couple of dollars :)
