Screamin Demon

Has anyone ever used the SH12 in the NECK position? I'm thinking about replacing my JAZZ with a Screamin Demon. It's going into an Ibanez S with a JB in the bridge position.

The Jazz just seems very trebley and the specs for both pu's look very similar but the Demon has a little more mids.

Thanks

Re: Screamin Demon

Totally good question! Right now i've got a 'demon lying around and i am also thinking of replacing the jazz in the neck position of my mccarty with it.

knowing how present and clear it sounds in the bridge, me thinks it would make a smokin' neck bucker!!

Re: Screamin Demon

That's what I was thinking too. It doesn't seem like it would muddy up. But the SD website description reccomends it for bridge only....... I leaning towards breaking the rules. Funny thing is I also had a Jazz in the neck of an Ibanez Artcore and it was awesome!

Re: Screamin Demon

I have it currently in my Carvin DC127-T. That guitar is a maple neck thru with maple wings, an ebony fingerboard, a floating VS-100 trem, Sperzel locking tuners, a 25" scale, and a graphite nut.

Acoustically, this guitar is loud, punchy, has great definition, and good bass with clean mids.

I paired the Demon with a PATB-1/Demon hybrid in the bridge (Thanks Kjrocks!).

The neck slot is big and open sounding. It's not boomy like a 59n I use in a Hamer, but the high end is thick and the mids are chewey and textured. I love it clean for jazz work (my poor excuse of it, anyway). Talk about a lap piano. It's big and rich without sounding garbled. Dirty, it sings well and there's not a hint of flabiness when bashing out power chords.

I really dig it, but it's soon to be replaced with a PATB-1n.

What can I say, I'm a pickup whore!

Re: Screamin Demon

Ahhh f*** it! I'm going to slam it in the neck of my mccarty. You never know unless you try right??

Re: Screamin Demon

BTW, I'm using fillister screws on the neck side and hex screws on the side closest to the bridge.

I do the same , so the split coil is the neck one .

Clean : full , big , very jazzy
Distorted : no mud , liquid tone , clear but not as bright and agressive than Jazz neck
Split : very good strat tone

Re: Screamin Demon

I have a Demon/59 hybrid in the neck of one of my Patroits and I love it. No boom or mud. Very clear and articulate. I think I'm going to put the Demon back together, and try it that way. Might mate good with that Invader.

Re: Screamin Demon

I had one in a 24 fret maple neck-through Mockingbird, so take that into consideration when reading what I thought about the demon in the neck.

I didn't care for it. I thought it was sort of a one trick pony in the neck position, and a bit too hot for my neck pickup tastes. It was very aggressive, clear, and articulate, and leads really jumped from the guitar. However, it didn't back off well enough for me and it lacked the sweetness I prefer out of my neck pickup. I think that's due to the aggressive voice and natural EQ of the Screamin' Demon. In a 22 fret guitar with an appropriately placed neck pickup it might sweeten up a little bit, even more in a guitar that isn't so bright.

Re: Screamin Demon

Ok Dudes, I just got my Ibanez back and all I can say is WOW! The SH12 in the neck position, of this Ibanez S, mahagony wood rosewood neck, sound totally kick ass! Way, way better than the SH2-Jazz neck I had in there. It sounds exactly as I hoped it would. A little bit middier than the Jazz but not muddy - fat and clear. And it goes extremely with the SH4-JB in the bridge.

Highly reccomend this combo for anyone with a similar guitar.

BTW, I put the Jazz pu in my old Washburn Force 1 that also has a JB in the bridge and it works much better in there and that ones an alder body with a maple neck. Go figure........

Peace

Re: Screamin Demon

Yeah I miss my demon in the neck position :usaribbon

It was a great neck pickup. I had it in a mahogany 25.5" set tru neck ltd H-400. It was like a 59 with more mids and treble, and a touch less bass. It was almost as thick and round as the 59, but it had more output. The lead tone was really cutting, and it still had really great cleans. Its clean tone was rather piano-like now that I think on it. Good for blues too.

**** this thread is making me want to put one in my Ibanez SZ

Re: Screamin Demon

I would. I'm actually thinking about replacing my '59 neck in my LP with the Demon.

All Hail the Screamin' Demon!

The Demon in bridge do not compare to the 59' IMHO :
It is not boomy at all in the bass , stays tight with gain .
It is much more woody , pick attack is bigger , 59' is more sirupy like Santana .
It sound huge clean or distorted as 59' sound soft and scooped and muddy .

I was comparing the demon to the 59n. I've actually never tried it in the bridge. But in the neck it reminded me of a hotter, tighter 59n with more mids and treble.

Re: Screamin Demon

just put the demon' in the neck position of my mccarty! Pumped to try it out on my rig later on!

Re: Screamin Demon

hi mates, its a nice informing topic

but the lack of information is how it sounds through a bolt on basswood guitar. anyone tried?

i have a jackson dinky, its 24fret and rosewood

Re: Screamin Demon

If you had ask what in what guitar i would you a Demon neck. I would have said basswood, bold on, long neck. Bass wood needs strong and overwound pickups with lots of articulate highs and strong bass.
