SD-1 & BIG PIG info sought

i picked up a MIJ boss sd-1. it's clean as a whistle. serial # dates it to july 1981..i opened it to find a NEC 4558 chip. is there anything significant about this chip?


also, i got a DOD big pig fat distortion. it looks untouched, but the circuitboard says "FX69" which is the "grunge pedal". what's up?

note: th' pig has several JRC 4558's

the MIJ SD-1 i have is my favourite pedal! lovely subtle OD never opened it up, never saw the need!

The chip won't make THAT big a difference in the great scheme of things. More of a feel thing that a huge tone change. The 4558 in all its versions is a cheap chip anyway.

I think (could be wrong) alot of 80's SD-1 came with NEC chips. early 80's BOSS pedals sound great though.
