SD A2P Neck sounds single coil

Just put an SD Alnico ii Pro humbucker in the neck of my Les Paul and while I was expecting some chime, was not quite expecting it to be quite as single coil-ish as it is. Like, position 2 or 4 on a strat. When I blend it with the bridge it sounds fine, but alone it is very, very thin and ice pick. Wired up according to diagram, red and white together and isolated.

Is this normal to sound this thin? Thanks for the input and help

The mids are a little mild and it is a balanced sounding pickup IMO. The APH-1n can work well played through a Marshall with the gain up. Is it possible to adjust the height closer to the strings?

I use that pickup extensively and it doesn't sound like that to me, unless it is split. Are you sure both coils are working?

Accidentally wired out of phase with itself? I'd swap the two wires of one coil only, just to be sure...
