SD Antiquity P90

I recently bought a new Gibson Les Paul Junior in Satin White with the ebony fretboard.
The stock Gibson P90 is great but I've always liked Antiquities so I ordered one and installed it yesterday. It is a bridge position pickup, measuring 8.45.
I love the way it sounds. Each string rings clear. The stock Gibson was a bit muddy, as I imagine it's a lot hotter that the Antiquity.
It's great clean and great dirty. Just an overall great sounding pickup.
As usual, the Antiquities really improved the sound of this guitar.
Highly recommended.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

Whats the maximum amount of distortion you're using with this pickup? Any feedback issues? I'm thinking about picking one up myself.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

Just tried the Antiquity P90 in the neck position of my Gibson LP Junior Special through the Lead 2 channel of a MESA/Boogie rack system. Yes, it hums like a mutha. Yes, it feeds back...

...and how!

The SD Antiquity P90 feeds back like Carlos Santana feeds back. Beautiful. Musical. Controllable.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

Beautiful pickups.
I don't really play with lots of distorsion, but as far as classic rock tone is concerned, I've experienced no feedback or squealing issues. Highly recommended.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

So just to be clear, a Dogear Antiquity P90 is NOT wax potted, is that correct?

Re: SD Antiquity P90

The website does not mention any wax potting.

Examining the bobbin of an Ant P90, I see no waxy dribbles emerging anywhere. Raising a polepiece screw lifts out no wax on the threads. Lowering the polepiece back down pushes no wax out underneath the bobbin.

If the coil of the Ant P90 is wax-potted, somebody has done a fastidiously neat job of it.

The lack of wax potting is the only thing stopping me from buying one. The stock Gibson P90s in my 60s tribute squeal like crazy, and they are waxed. Granted, I'm running the guitar through a 5153, but my strat and tele don't have this issue.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

I have no experience with the P90 Antiquities, but I have Ants in my LP and my Tele and love them both!!

How much do your Gibson P90s waggle on their mounting screws? Try packing compressible foam in the cavities to fill the air gap.

Re: SD Antiquity P90

Does anyone else have any feedback or sound clips (possibly) of these pickups? I'm contemplating putting them in my Les Paul Special over the stock Gibson P90s. I play pop punk (The All American Rejects, motion City Soundtrack), Alt rock (The Stroke), Cage the Elephant stuff, and even some heavier alt rock. Is it worth the swap?

Re: SD Antiquity P90

In my opinion, yes. (Here, I am assuming that you have an all-valve amplifier and somewhere to run it at a healthy sound pressure level.)
