SD APH-I's...or the APH-II's???

I'm having a hard time finding anything on the internet regarding the differences between the APH-I and APH-II pickups (tone and sound wise.) My questions being: what is the difference between these two pickups tone and sound wise...and, are the APH-I's of today the same as the APH-I's of 1986? If they are different, in what way are they different??? (I have read the specs for both of these pickups, but that doesn't really tell me what I'd like to know.)

the aph2 is wound a touch hotter and its more aggressive. not quite as smooth as the aph1

Here is some info.
The modern aph read a bit higher when measured.
My nos nib 1986 are ~7.1k neck 7.95 bridge comparef to the consistant 7.3/8.1 these days.

Indeed, the APH-2 is a touch hotter with more slightly more mids and also not available in 4 conductor wire.

IMO the APH-1 is more of an all around pickup and the APH-2 (although capable of being an all around pickup) tends to add a little more grit to the mix. Don't get me wrong though, the APH-1 is fully capable of great rock tone. I use the APH-1's in my rock guitar.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that A2P's are a little hotter with a touch more mids...or did everyone say that? Are you guys reading it from the same place?

Lol nice sarcasm. If you need pretty clean sounds, the general consensus seems to be: get the aph-1. But i've heard several reviewers say the slash sig is better sounding

Having used both, I like the extra punch of the Slash set, but I do wish the came with 4 conductor wiring

For what special wiring? You can easily convert single wire PU's by attaching a wire to the wire in the PU that connects the two coils (take off the tape at where they're soldered together and attach there), and running it down to the pots. That'll give you coil cut and spin-a-split. You can do phase with a single lead. Same with linking two PU's in series (like the Jimmy Page system does) which is nice for single coils and P-90's, and even HB's if one is in coil cut. You can do a lot with a single lead PU: everything the entire Jimmy Page system does if you run an extra wire from each HB. That takes no special skills or experience.
