SD Artist Setups

Just wanted to let you know about a new feature on our website. It's called Artist Setups and it takes you through some of the rigs of our top artists -- including their guitar, amp, pickups, strings, etc.

We just have a handful of artists listed now, but Kellie will be busy over the next few weeks getting more info from more artists and updating the page.

You can also get there from the drop-down menu under "Artists."

Any comments?

Thats kick ass, evan. There's something to add to mark morton's rig. He has 9 (yes 9) cabniets.

kind of crappy pic quality but my scanner isnt all that great.

those other 2 guitars are a sweet tone archtop and an rr5.

I like that feature a lot. Very useful to those new to the company for what kind a direction to lean toward when deciding what pickup to buy.

bah silly old guys haha J/K i'm lovin' the 4 that are up there...now just get Jessica to talk to the guys from Strung Out and get their setups up there...even though i know them already that bend needs more recognition for being a killer punk band!!

Very nice idea. Now, are you planning on getting all possible endorsers there, or just a selected few? I think that it wouldn't hurt to have as much of them there as possible.

The downside is, that, that kind of information is usually very restricted to a certain time period in the artists careers. The information may very well be obsolete after six months. So, you should try to update it as well, or use specific info like: "Used on this and that album." Good work, anyway!

It's an interesting idea. But two points come to mind:

-artists change their rigs over time and keeping up with it can be tough. Claptons "Layla" era rig was totally different than the one he used during "Behind The Sun" era.

-It just seems too scant info-wise. I hate to be critical but there's so little meat in the information that you're providing. Figuring out what they use can be a pretty easy task with a few of the right pictures; that sort of thing I would expect from a site like Guitar Geek or whatever. But for you guys, who work closely with the artists, I guess I expect a little more than that. Knowng what the gear is and how it's set up in context can make a world of difference. You might want to include the history of some of the peices of gear; some of that says alot about the artist (Tom Morellos JCM head comes immediately to mind). Then there's also the artists settings; what do THEY find works for them for their sound? As players we tend to have knee-jerk reactions to certain knobs; it would be notable to know if an artist used way more Mids than we ever expected. And that sort of thing can be valuable when it makes us question our own sounds and settings and gets us tweaking knobs and trying new things.

I'm not trying to be critical here. If this was put out by any hack website then fine. But I hold you guys to a higher level of quality in both the products you make and your presnece online. And for both you're yet to let me down!
