SD DA 59

A friend of mine bought this guitar a couple of days ago from thomann

Looking at the specs, the pickups in it are custom Seymour Duncan DA 59's. Do you know what DA stands for? They are regular 59's or not?

It stands for Deluxe Atlantic, I think. I have no idea what’s different. In one shot it looks like they might be using gold covers?

Yes gold cover on my friend's guitar. I asked because a different model has two Seth Lover Alnico 4 installed. It seems Duncans in those guitars are a little bit different from the aftermarket production

This is common when a company makes an agreement to have something special for their production model. How does it sound?

i kinda assume they are just 4 cond 59s. you can get 59 with no cover, nickle or gold covers so thats nothing different

Yes they have 4 conductors. Both tones are push/pull pots

The guitar has a beautiful clean tone. In the middle position with both pickups splitted you ca get a nice funky tone. I think this guitar is suitable for jazz, light crunchy blues and funk.

You resumed a five years old post. The link now points to a different guitar. The original URL reported a D’Angelico guitar equipped with a couple of DA 59

(Although, the one with the A4 Seth Lovers is pretty cool.)
