SD Distortion and Invaders Pickup Combo

Re: SD Distortion and Invaders Pickup Combo

Here's the one I had with the Crunchy PAT:

I love that guitar. It oozes epic. Haha. Sounds like the crunchy rails and pats are very similar. I like the rails best I think. I have the metallic black and I think the rails would look the best. & I love the standard neck pickups so I will probably leave those alone. Are pickups terribly hard to change if they're passive? I don't really want to pay a pro. I think I could youtube and learn hw to change it for a lot cheaper.

Your guitar is gogreous with the red and white. Mine is metallic black and I love it. So were the passives hard to change to other passives? Will I need to get a pro to do it or can I youtube it and learn easily.

Not hard at all. The lazy way to do it is to cut the wire a few inches away from the switch (if I remember correctly, the bridge pickup wire was red and the neck pickup wire was yellow) and then splice the new pickup wire in, and just electrical tape it.

Okay cool. Thanks so much that really helps me. And helps me save $$$$$$$ which I need. Lol

Re: SD Distortion and Invaders Pickup Combo

So how much would be the least amount I should spend on a fairly decent amp?

Re: SD Distortion and Invaders Pickup Combo

Get the pickup installed in the guitar first, then take the guitar with you to Guitar Center or whatever and try out the different amps if you can. They might have a used one too which would save you some money. (Then pay the extra $20 for the year warranty just in case. ;) )

Re: SD Distortion and Invaders Pickup Combo

Thanks I will try that! Ever heard of Dragonfire pups? They're so cheap. But I don't know if that means cheap quality too...

I've used one of their active pickups before, it was *ok*. The passive ones do look cheap, and I'm not a fan of all slug pickups. (They don't have adjustable screw pole pieces.)
