Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows the difference between the two? Is the fender EVH frankenstien pickup made by seymour duncan or fender and specs?

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

I'd imagine a FENDER EVH pickup is made by Fender and a SEYMOUR DUNCAN EVH pickup is made by Seymour Duncan. As for their sound I can't speak for the EVH but the Duncan is supposed to be fantastic.

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

I do have the seymour duncan EVH which I bought in 2005 . Its a 9.1 with alnico2 mag,21 gauss. Curious if anybody knows more about the fender EVH?

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

The Fender EVH was made to mimic the pickup he had later in the DLR era of VH (1984) Its unevenly wound and reads around 14k and has an Alnico II pickup. seymour's EVH is more of the early VH years (VH1-women and children 1st) and the Fender, as i said before, is later VH/DLR yrs.

Tonight I should get my peavey wolf back from the tech, he installed the EVh frankie pup, going to be interesting on how it sounds. Hopefully alot better then the stock with a full setup also.

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

Cool, Keep me posted. I have a wolfgang also. So I know what those sound like. I actually like them I even put two in my les paul so outputs would match when I switched guitars. I am surprized for a high output pickup 14k. I usually like paf 's. Let me know what you think of the Frankie in comparison. They are both around 14k .

there is an issue with the "Frankenstein" pick-up, the mounting ears will not fit the triangular routing of the pickup cavity, and the screw holes have to be drilled out to mount the new pckup with the foam-spring type mounting. And going to take the shim out of the nut because the strings are kinda high there and take it down some. I thought there might be an issue with guitar because i heard this before. piss me off!

I'd imagine a FENDER EVH pickup is made by Fender and a SEYMOUR DUNCAN EVH pickup is made by Seymour Duncan.

Both pickups are produced by Seymour Duncan. However, the EVH version is a Fender/EVH exclusive and can only be purchased through Fender dealers.

This is correct and can be verified through the search function, it´s been stated on multiple occasions by both Evan and MJ.

IIRC the Fender EVH is closer to the CC at 14k and A2, but you can´t really tell how a PU sounds just from those 2 specs...

FWIW, simply searching for "EVH" in thread titles brought up this very conclusive list of threads.... I doubt that there´s anything re. these 2 pickups that hasn´t been stated therein....

That would suck if u cant fit it in. To bad you didnt have another standard guitar to try it in first. Then you could go back and forth comparing tone to give you some kind of an idea.

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

well I got it back, he did a good job setting the guitar up. He sanded the nut about 0.018 think thats right, to lower the high end side. It plays much better and smoother. The pup seems well balanced not too high or low just right i guess. I say it step up from the peavey. wish I could compare the 2 to really see, probably sound better in ash maybe?

Re: SD EVH & Fender EVH frankenstien?

I put together real quick vid on the second take, first was better acourse but the audio wasn't working. Im no evh freak that will try to play every note to note for hours aday, did this for fun with no guitar lessons or tabs. I think the tones are pretty good for me! sounds a little thicker on the vid compared to live but im happy with the guitar.
